Finnish President Alexander Stubb, in an interview with NBC News, vividly illustrated the scale of potential Russian occupation of Ukrainian territory by translating it into US proportions:

“For the American audience, the best way to explain this is that if you take the relative land area that Russia now wants from Ukraine, it would be a bit like giving up Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, even Virginia and part of Maryland.”

Interestingly, the listed states made up most of the Confederacy’s territory, which Washington brought back into the Union after the Civil War of 1861–65.

Finnish President Stubb put it plainly: “To help Americans grasp the scale of Russia’s territorial ambitions in Ukraine, imagine having to give up Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Virginia.”

4. All of Ukraine fits within the US from the Atlantic to the Mississippi. But what Russia

actually occupies is the equivalent of two of those states.

If the EU and Ukraine give up any land to Putin after the 2022 attack, they'll be permitting his further attacks.
Putin's war is a forever war against the West until his dying day.
War is profitable in failing states like Russia.
