(43,534 posts)four of the five districts lean Hispanic and trump's approval rating with Hispanics is now down to 32%. At one time it was 61%.
Wouldn't it be hilarious if this continues and those four districts go Democratic?
Then we'd have the five new reps from CA for a total gain of 9 Democratic representatives.
He doesn't even mention ICE, another good reason not to vote for republicans.

Yes, it's a running total. Have to take this state-by-state.

(13,420 posts)Seats we can get out of IL. They may already be at their max. But we have New Mexico and the same thing that's going on in Texas applies there with the Mexican population. Plus they can redraw maps.

we have a big majority in springfield. we can def pick up several seats.

(10,433 posts)Democrats already have the 5 seats in Texas. Winning them does not gain them anything. It just prevents losses.
NJCher
(43,534 posts)Those seats which are being created by gerrymandering are being counted on by trump to vote republican. They may not. Therefore, they would be a gain for Democrats. Verstehen zie?
on edit: a better way of saying this is in trump's mind, he would look at it that way. However, net is a different story.
In any event, it may not matter because the matter will be taken through the courts. See this from the NY Times:

With passage in the State House, the map goes to the State Senate, where Republican leaders have an even stronger hand. Once Mr. Abbott signs it, Democrats have said they will challenge its legality.
Texas will have to go to the courts, said Gene Wu, a Democratic state representative from Houston, who led the walkout. He implored Democrat-led states to now take action. California, New York, Illinois, Michigan and many other states look at whats happening here, he said.

(10,433 posts)That is wrong. Why should I or anyone give a damn about how Trump views it? He may be the stupidest man on the planet.
NJCher
(43,534 posts)Because we need an indicator if this is going to continue.
Communications people look at it from the POV of the person speaking. It's a way of understanding where they are coming from.
We teach our students to do that, too.
I agreed the net is correct. That is not germane to my point. How this will affect trump and will he continue with this effort? That is why I put the quote in about it being litigated by the Democrats.
It's an iffy situation.
