Here in the Twin Cities, road construction has gone crazy! Why? Trump.
Every year, during the spring and summer months, road construction is a big deal here in the great white north. This year, though, it is especially bad. Apparently, there were some federal funding that Trump would make go away if the work was not started or completed in 2025. So, what that means is that major road projects are all fully underway right now.
Time is running out. We're in the height of good weather, so there are projects tying up traffic all over the Twin Cities metro area, including right in front of my house on the arterial street I can see from my deck balcony. It's a 4 1/2 lane, 45 mph minor highway with a center left turn lane. Today, they're paving three passes on the same road to hurry up the project.
There are three big-ass paving machines and an endless line-up of bottom-dumping bulk materials trailers delivering hot asphalt. Good luck if you need to go somewhere. You can, because they must keep that road open. It's lined by cul-de-sac townhouse developments on one side and major structures with dead-end parking lots, like schools, churches, etc,. on the other side. Without that road, nobody can get anywhere. There are no alternate routes to and from the stuff on both sides of that arterial. So, it's complicated.
Normally, they'd stretch the construction out to keep half the road open all the time. This time, due to the financial deadline caused by Trump, they're doing the whole five lanes and intersections for about 5 miles, in just two days.
Fascinating stuff to watch. I confess to sitting on my deck chair watching the mayhem. Police and ambulances have to snake their way through the traffic as best they can. I'm surprised at how well they have this all organized.
It's like that all over the metro area. Google maps can't keep up, so if you need to get somewhere, good luck getting directions.
Sadly, once this construction season ends, that infrastructure work is going to come to an unfunded halt until Trump is gone. So much for infrastructure improvements.
Thanks, Trump, you greedy asshole!
