are ignorantly evil rather than actively evil.
The woman who cleans my house voted for Trump. I was complaining about the DOJ ousting UVA's President Ryan the other day (we live in Virginia) and she said "What's going on? I don't watch the news."
She doesn't believe he's an adjudicated rapist who fomented an insurrection and voted for him anyway. She an ignorant twit who didn't bother to educate herself so she doesn't know he's an adjudicated rapist who fomented an insurrection who voted for him because "tariffs might not be such a bad thing [to bring manufacturing back to the US]."
Given that I'm losing my job because of DOGE, I am looking forward to telling her that I won't be able to use her services anymore because of Trump. Maybe when she also has to fight for her Medicaid ["He promised not to touch it!"] and she starts losing more clients as the economy slides into the toilet, she'll figure out that MAYBE she should have been an informed voter instead of a stupid-as-f**k voter.
I really tried to be that "maybe I can show her the errors of her ways and get her to stop voting Republican" magnanimous type but holy f**k am I looking forward to firing her!

Had breakfast with a disabled veteran soon after the election. He said he didn't like Trump or Harris, so he voted for Trump.
Go figure.

(364 posts)Your story reminds me of a saying I've been thinking of lately with regards to similar people who, by the way, are likely to be waking up pretty soon:
"You might not be interested in politics, but they're interested in you".

(11,062 posts)I would have probably asked her to explain why she thought tariffs would bring back manufacturing jobs. Just for fun, not that I expect them to change their ignorant ways. (They usually dont.)

(6,019 posts)it would take 3 - 5 years for manufacturing to come back to the US, if at all, and why would a corporation bother to build a new factory here if the next president might eliminate the tariffs as soon as the factory is built. She didn't have a response to that.
Honestly, IMO she latched onto tariffs as an excuse because either consciously or unconsciously she liked the idea of her competition being deported!

(6,019 posts)I won't have time to clean while I look for her replacement - otherwise I would. She's been trying to grow her business so that she has enough clients that she can have "crews" a multiple houses even if she's not there - and that's been happening more lately. For that reason alone I was already planning to get rid of her once I could find a replacement but now I can't commit to a replacement. I may tell her that I'm done with her no later than end of December so it is hanging like a sword of Damocles over her head! On the other hand, I could drop it on her on December 15th!
I'm the only client she has who gives her gives her the week closest to Xmas "off" but still pays her for it and sometimes in the summer, too. When she told me that I counted with "well, I'm a socialist" (although doing so is actually probably more Marxist in some ways that socialist but she wouldn't know that) so that she would associate "being treated well by an employer" with "that evil socialism label."
