You've all heard the buzz about the deployment of an armada of heavy duty naval assets to sit off the shore of Venezuela. Trump is now saying that Maduro is an illegitimate President of Venezuela.
Also, prior to this new deployment, they deployed a lot of naval assets to the Gulf of Mexico. I have no idea if they are still there. I think they were to intimidate Mexico. Venezuela has reacted by stating that they are arming every last one of their citizens to resist American aggression. They see it and they believe.
I can't remember which major oil company is involved, but there is one who was forced to quit doing business (extracting oil) within Venezuela. There is now some question of whether they will start up again when Venezuela has been taken over.
Guyana is next to Venezuela. They fairly recently had discovered an ocean of oil within their country, enough to really make them wealthy. Maduro at one point was getting ready to invade them. That was until Biden sent one of our destroyers to sit off the coast. Then they stopped. I suspect that Guyana is also at risk from whatever we are doing there now. They are defenseless, apparently, and would have great reason to fear the developments. I think they signed some development contract a while back, but I don't think that would keep them from being overrun.
Trump has been casting about, looking for someone to invade. Oil, rare earth, drugs. Those are what he's looking for. Drugs are not really his thing, until you consider the vast amount of wealth the cartels control. Don't you believe it for a second when he declares all of South America a cartel and seeks to dominate it through brute force. Right now he is picking off the low-hanging fruit.
Maduro is toxic for his country. Venezuelans were fleeing long before rumpy showed up. Regardless of how anyone feels about drug warlords, Venezuela is not our country. Trump may stick his nose into their affairs in a big way, but those citizens will not be better off having Maduro replaced by rumpy.
Seeing as how we now have a world-class presidential problem of our own, I do not know what any country can do to get rid of authoritarian leaders. The only thing I have seen that really works is for the People to turn out in the millions, all at once. I have learned that all people, everywhere, struggle to achieve freedom, and when it is taken away, it takes a good, shocking event and pissed off people to finally fight back. I believe that is why we are seeing trump place his obedient assets in place against us.
I hope and pray that we do not invade Venezuela. That would surely get a percentage of our soldiers coming home in boxes. And, for what? Oil? We had a good mindset to remove ourselves from the reliance on oil, only to have trump step on our efforts for renewable energy. And now, this. Don't believe him when he tells you that he is going after cartels. He made a deal with Sina Loa and allowed a lot of their family members to enter over our border. He's after riches, period.
He put up a border fence more to keep us in, and is destroying our economic base so he can control us. He copies everything that his admired authoritarian buddies do or tell him to do. And, sadly, it seems like all we can do is pray for him to die.
I haven't heard much about all these naval assets being positioned out there in the Caribbean, but it is laughable that the Secretary of Defense is Hegseth. He must have ordered that, and since I don't think rumpy is capable of doing anything but playing golf (badly,) we are forced to have Hegseth in charge of all that. Would you like to fight WW3 with Hegseth in charge? They have or are firing any experienced, capable flag level officers. Hegseth was a television personality before taking the eye of trump and gaining the reins of power. He doesn't have the experience needed to fight a war. Just because he was in the National Guard doesn't make him capable.
Please G-d, make the trump regime go away. Amen.

The things we did to various Middle Eastern countries in the 1950's is ghastly reading and it is no wonder the average Middle Eastern citizen doesn't trust the West.

(71 posts)With an unqualified idiot like Hegseth running the military, we can be grateful that he will screw up so badly that even our powerful and highest-funded military in the world will not be too successful at killing any people that have suddenly and inexplicably been named enemies of the America because TACO can't bully other nations into handing over minerals or oil or cash or hamburgers.
And I know that we are responsible for getting our nation back from this demented dictator, but I am thinking that the leaders across the world who were our friends less than a year ago (!) , they see what's coming and they are planning to defend themselves in case Trump goes full-out insane and tries to attack any and all people who dare speak against him.
And Canada knows Americans didn't want what Trump has done. Even the MAGAs probably were confused by the orange asshole threatening Canada for no reason! That was not something he campaigned on! And the UK and the rest of the 5 eyes can see more clearly what's going on in the US.
Hopefully, if the Big Buffoonish Blowhard attacks any nation, they will already have plans to stop shit from escalating. But, I think a civil war might start before then and I don't think even our ex-besties will feel justified in stepping in the middle of that type of problem.
But, with Hegseth in charge, there's a very good chance that he will drunkenly Signal all the plans to the world beforehand. To make it even easier for competent Generals to come slap his dumb ass out of power. Or easier for any of us to try and fight to keep our country.
So by Trump assembling the most ignorant administration ever , he did make it just a little bit easier. Like honestly, Kash and RFK jr . Hegseth, Bondi, et al couldn't come up with a decent bowl of brains if they all pitched in!
I won't consider what might happen if Putin and Netanyahu come to help their co-conspirator. Not today.
Too scary to think about.
And BTW has anyone pointed out that the day the National Guard is supposed to be deployed to 19 states is early September? So that with the current rules of deployment, the date the 90 days would end is Nov 4. No coincidence there at all. And yes, I know the "rules" of deployment or anything else, is nothing that Trump would consider.
