MUSKOGEE, Okla. (WKRC) - A mother and father were accused of neglecting their 11-year-old daughter after she gave birth at home without any medical care, with the parents claiming they didn't know the child was pregnant.
According to court documents obtained by local outlet Fox 23, the child had been pregnant for 36 weeks when she gave birth to a full-term child in her family's home on Aug. 16. Despite this, the girl's parents, 34-year-old Dustin Walker and 3-year-old Cherie Walker, claimed that they didn't know the 11-year-old was pregnant.
Additionally, the court documents allegedly said the child hadn't been to the doctor in over a year, and received no prenatal care for her pregnancy. Authorities became aware of the Walkers and their daughter after they took her to the hospital upon giving birth, per local outlet KJRH.
"I was horror-stricken to find out its an 11-year-old little girl whos given birth," said Assistant District Attorney Janet Hutson. "She had no medical care, and she had no one to be with her."

(13,198 posts)Let alone when she started screaming with contractions. Her parents only took her to the hospital AFTER she'd had the baby.
I wish I could hug her too. Her trauma is unimaginable.

(5,029 posts)such an obvious mathematical error....
I have had numerous conversations with several A.I. services,
and although they may make factual errors,
I've never seen any of them come up with an error as stupid as that....
Looks more like a typo with lack of proofreading, i.e. HUMAN ERROR...
I didn't notice but I see it now.

.
In the U.S., the youngest reliably documented mothers were 10 years old.
The American Medical Association once listed a 10-year-old Illinois girl (1936) as the youngest U.S. mother.
Another verified case is Rosalie Moss, age 10, who gave birth in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1949.
Records before the mid-20th century are sparse and privacy rules obscure later cases, so sources note the youngest U.S. mother is a matter of dispute, but 10 years old is the lowest age with reputable documentation.
.
The youngest confirmed mother in medical/history records is Lina Medina a 5‑year‑old from Peru. Her pregnancy was due to precocious puberty, and she gave birth via C‑section in 1939.

The 11-year-old girls grandmother said that the family was unaware the girl was pregnant.
Theyve made my daughter and my son-in-law a monster. They are not, she said. They love those children. They love them.
The grandmother said the house was in bad condition because of pets. The relative further stated that her daughter claimed that the father of the 11-year-olds baby is a a 12-year-old boy.

(13,198 posts)Who she babysitted. Even if that's true, why in the hell did she leave them alone long enough to have sex?
My first thought was it might be her dad as well.

That is the only possible explanation I can think of----
other than they NEVER LOOKED AT HER....

Possibly more likely they were too tripped out on meth to look after children or pay their bills.....

I've noticed tons of factual errors in news articles lately....
Perhaps I should apply for work as a proof-reader,
since I seem to know more about some things than some of the reporters and editors...

(71 posts)Is abortion legal in Oklahoma?
If not, are there any exceptions?
Because as tragic as this story is, (with the prosecutor even making a statement about how upsetting it is) isn't the outcome here more or less what many of the red states are enacting laws to force this exact outcome?
The girl was raped, probably for years. But if she had been taken to a doctor earlier would she (or her legal guardian, the mom, who was an accessory to the abuse most likely) have been able to terminate the pregnancy?
And if the law in Oklahoma doesn't allow abortion, is the father of the child, her rapist, guaranteed any custody rights? And the 11 year old new mother? Would she still be taken out of her parents' home by CPS? It's a tragedy that turns into a worse injustice for kids like this in red states.
And then the assistant district attorney continues to lament about the thought of this poor girl, giving birth at home, "she had no medical care" . Again, isn't what they Republicans feel is acceptable policy?
It's absolutely disgusting that some state legislators try to find a way to pass laws to force this exact outcome! Every single person in the article and every single person in the comments had no confusion in determining that this is a sad and heartbreaking story.
But the Republican party doesn't lose sleep worrying about young abused girls. They prove it with their actions over and over and over.

12 or not, it's still rape even if he doesn't understand that's what it is.
Sad and tragic.
Thank you for the information, Polybius.

(6,408 posts)In some jurisdictions, if the male and female are underage and, their ages are within two or three years of each other, it is not considered rape.
Polybius
(21,902 posts)However, apparently that was just the grandmother incorrectly stating someone she assumed to be the father.
You're quite welcome.

(47,423 posts)The man is not 11 year old's father, but her stepfather. He is also allegedly the father of the baby. I had a feeling that was going to be the case, when I first heard about this story a couple of days ago.
They should throw the book at him.
