Trump got wind that Bolton is working on a new book about his WH.
While Bolton doesn't likely have "classified documents," he has material that he's been using for this book.
Trump used the FBI to confiscate the research material, to review, and likely, to not return to Bolton. IOW, steal the research.

(32,789 posts)One needs cause to get a search warrant, or a crooked magistrate or judge. I asked to see the reasons in the warrant, no one asked.
I thought that an investigation was already done right after Bolton released his book and nothing was found?
Just look at the difference in search warrants;
There will be no classified documents found at Bolton's properties but Garland couldn't do a search at Mar-a-Lago until he had video evidence or first hand accounts of those dozens of boxes in the shitter when the entire country knew that Krasnov stole classified documents. All Garland had to do was talk to the people who loaded them up. All Garland had to do was put the squeeze on Mark Meadows who organized the theft of the documents.
The entire country knew that Krasnov stole a lot of documents but Garland waited 11 months to send in the FBI, just imagine what Jack Smith could have done with 11 extra months.
