the defining phrase of the 2nd Amendment. Much more so than "the Right to bare Arms." A reading of the Federalist Paper clearly shows the purpose behind the 2nd. The debate was all about an armed force to counter tyranny from without and within. There is almost no mention of individual self protection. I doubt the idea that gun laws in the modern world was a concept they could even fathom. (sort of like corporations as people)
So we have the Original Intent Crowd, especially the anti-constitution Justices on the SCOTUS, who refuse to even acknowledge the clear writings of the Founders in this.

That meant training, safe keeping, drilling, organization. It also meant keeping arms, ammunition, black powder in a town armory.
No self proclaimed militia does anything like that. most act like paintballers with ARs etc.

(11,796 posts)Per judge winebox, it's now legal to open carry long guns in DC. Fine, until the black panthers show up and have their firearms taken from them because they're black (you fucking take that to the bank that will happen).
At that point, either the whole thing matters, or it doesn't and Alex Jones and his loons get the white state they've always wanted (instead of the one they've been saying they want since goldwater.
2nd amendment isn't my favorite, but it's there and I think this will end up being a test case for how much actual power we still have.
If armed citizens are what will stop extra-legal kidnappings, and prevent this admin screwing around with elections, then I'm on board with the goon squads knowing damn well we can shoot back.
Those 2 dead morons in Texas are a good example.
