I know I'm going to be bashed for this - but where the FUCK are the Democrats? We have the National Guard roaming the streets of DC with guns, the FBI raiding Bolton's house, the cover up in plain sight of trump's bribery of G. Maxwell in order to hide his crimes with underage girls. And the only person truly speaking out is Gavin Newsom??? Is everyone else on vacation and don't think we've reached the fascism stage so they'll wait until the fall or the midterms?
I know, I know, I'll now get responses providing a single feeble quote from Schumer or Jeffries etc. or a response of "what can the Democrats do?"
That is bullshit.

(6,670 posts)There seems to be some mistaken notion that if we shit on our Democratic leadership and party often enough, and loud enough... then it will change reality and *poof!* magically, the Democrats will be in the majority again. But, again... returning to the REAL WORLD... that will only happen if more people vote for Democrats that for the GOP (or third party spoilers). Still all this shitting only serves to drive voters AWAY from supporting the party. And, that only helps the GOP.
This is what I call sabotage! It's absolute treachery.

the purity patrol complains if Democrats speak out - "weak" "strongly worded letter" - if they act -"WTF are the Democrats? Why aren't they screaming about this" - or, of course, if they hold one position the patrol doesn't like, or God forbid, mention their faith.

This needs to stop. It serves no good purpose. It's divisive and a divided party is a weakened party. The false narrative creates distrust and that only causes voters to avoid supporting Democrats... and that serves to benefit the GOP and Trump.
So, why would ANYONE want to do or say ANYTHING that ultimately benefits the Republicans and Trump? Cut it out.
choie
(6,997 posts)The republicans are a lost cause - or do you not get that yet? It is not a false narrative. I'm sick and tired of seeing the posters on this site protecting the Democrats from valid criticism. Stop being so damn sensitive. Just stop it already.

(6,670 posts)It's little more than an indulgent fantasy that the Democrats have some sort of magic-pill or magic-wand that will CURE EVERYTHING, INSTANTLY. --- It's spreading the false notion that the Democrats have it in their power to work some sort of MIRACLE, but for unknown reasons, the "mean-old Democrats" just refuse to do it.
Look, I understand the impulse to engage in these sort of Veruca Salt temper tantrums and Grandpa Simpson shouting at clouds... after all, these are indeed scary and tough times. But none of this is helpful. Portraying our Democratic leadership as "lazy" or "clueless" or "scared" (or whatever the trendy insult-of-the-day might be) is an ineffective use of one's anger.
I recommend finding productive ways to channel the anger, fear and frustration. I assure everyone that non-stop shitting on Democrats is not the way to bring about the desired change (unless what someone wants is a weakened and divided party).

Frankly You made it clear you don't want any answers when you said:
That is bullshit.
Because anything we will say, you will call feeble. So, I won't tell you what Gov Pritzker just said in an interview just hours ago, you can do a search for that yourself.

(40,852 posts)Do your political representatives cross the street or sneak out a side door when they see you coming? Or do they smile and stop to chat?
Politics is not a spectator sport. Sitting in the grandstands and cheering for your team is the very least you can do, but in a functioning democracy nobody is excluded from the playing field.

(40,852 posts)Here in California I think Governor Newsom is doing a pretty good job representing me, same with Alex Padilla. Adam Schiff is too close to the political center for my taste. Overall, the political "center" of the U.S.A. has always stunk of authoritarianism, racism, and misogyny.
My local reps are mostly cool, excepting a few evangelical Christians and right wing Catholics who greatly annoy me with their anti-intellectualism.
Which member of the Democratic Party do you find most annoying and ineffective, is "anybody home," as you say?
Maybe you could start working on them rather than disparaging the entire party.
Like it or not, the U.S. Constitution makes a two party system inevitable. We can support the Democratic Party, or we can slide further backwards. Yeah, that can be frustrating at times.
I'm a radical environmentalist and some kind of socialist. I get extremely frustrated with politics sometimes but practically speaking the Democratic Party is the only game in town. Republicans and third party candidates only impede progress.

(34,852 posts)Did you not notice? Newsom, Pritzker, and Hochul took them in. Those states are doing what they can to fight redistricting.
Should they abandon their battles and start yelling and screaming instead?
Because yelling and screaming always works.
Should they be arming themselves with tanks instead??
Where would we get the tanks, bombs etc??
Everyone cheered on Al Green, but guess what? He's been redistricted out of his district.
If you haven't noticed, states are fighting the National Guard takeover.
I suggest since, you are so active with the Democratic party, at least make a list of what they should be doing. Because I see these blanket complaints, with no real concrete solutions. And if Democrats challenge Trump in court, it isn't considered, "Good enough". Democrats introduce bills, but obviously, that's not good enough.
Please tell me what you expect them to do? Other than a successful Jan 6th like overthrow, do you have any options that will work?

Newsom is amazing and we need more Democrats on the national level to be openly and publicly and strongly standing WITH him and doing more of what he is doing.
Stating the truth is not being negative as to Democrats. It's simply asking more of them than what they are giving. Even NEWSOM has said the same thing.

"There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you cant take part; you cant even passively take part, and youve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and youve got to make it stop. And youve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless youre free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!"

I sometimes question if those who think that their elected representatives are either "not doing enough" (Democrats) or the "wrong thing" have contacted them to voice their opinion? If not, that might suggest an option made available to them by Amendment 1:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. -- Amendment 1
Older community members may recall that a little over a decade ago, when a state senator refused to meet with representatives of the environmental community, I began a hunger strike to place pressure upon him. High school classes began writing to the senator, saying his refusal to meet us went against what they were learning about representative government in their social studies classes.
In time, state-wide environmentals met at the state capital. There were over 1,200 there when I spoke. Within half an hour, I met the senator, after his staff informed him I was making him look bad. Ten minutes later, we met as a group.
I cannot say that all 1,200+ were registered Democrats. But as a Democrat myself, that is my answer to questions about "where are the Democrats?" The grass roots needs to step up.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
