(8,710 posts)...and if he is, any guilty verdict (doubtful) will be tossed.
I personally think it's an asshole thing to do, but it's free speech.

(1,787 posts)Trump's dream scene is a bunch of people waving the Mexican flag while burning the American flag. That's the image he wants his supporters to imagine. I don't recommend burning flags, although it should be legal. But I think the more Mexican flags the better. Solidarity!

(14,510 posts)Symbols are important until they mean more than the rights our country stands for. An American Flag is an important symbol to me and I treat it with respect, but when a man in a suit decides he will take possession of that symbol and give it more value than the citizens and soldiers of this country, then its time to show him what really matters.
Good for this combat veteran. He knows what he fought for!

(38,824 posts)He was having diarrahea of the mouth. His executive order did not create a new crime and punishment. It did not even ask Congress to create a new crime and punishment. It was just a big PR stunt.
His order asked the DOJ to enforce existing laws which are breached by means of someone burning a flag. For example - if you burn a flag in an area in which open burning is prohibited, Trump asked the DOJ to charge you with open burning. (The one year is pure fiction and not even remotely tied to anything in the executive order.) If there isn't an applicable federal law, but the DOJ is aware of a state law - they are to ask the state to enforce its laws. That's it.
The EO had zero to do with using flag burning as expressive speech.
PLEASE - read the executive order and avoid spreading nonsense about what what it was that Trump signed.
