General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIf Dems win House or Senate, how should they interact with the Republicans?
Should they subpoena them one after the other and make their lives miserable? Or should they attempt to work with them?
Should they investigate and promise to prosecute if they can prove they committed criminal acts? Or do the Repubs believe they will never be held responsible for anything?
Should they seek retribution or should they just "live and let live" and go on about their business?
Or as Governor Pritzker said yesterday, should they make a list and hold all of them accountable?
Or are Democrats too busy defending themselves to even think of going on the offense? It would all be a trivial pursuit?

(19,326 posts)Bringing down the debt will be issue #1, so Democrats will be told they immediately need to slash entitlement programs, not raise taxes on the rich. And looking forward, not backwards, will be the only acceptable way to accomplish anything.

They've had a 'free ride' for long enough!
THAT is one of the few issues which rank-and-file Democrats AND Republicans
seem to agree!!!! Democrats should run on it !!!

(5,252 posts)but seriously, a Democratic House (which is more likely than a Democratic Senate after 2026)
should INVESTIGATE Republicans for any WHIFF of crimes---
no more of this "look to the future" CRAP--- the PAST has great influence upon the future---
especially when political criminals are not held accountable for their crimes--- (Reagan, Bush 1 and 2)
and the next time, they go even further....
I have read that President Bill Clinton received evidence from the Soviet Union (oddly enough)
about the 1980 Reagan campaign's actions to prevent the release of the American hostages in Iran
BEFORE the 1980 election---(borderline treason)
but chose to IGNORE this evidence and "look to the future"!
President Obama likewise chose to ignore numerous crimes in the Bush 2 administration,
to 'concentrate on the future, rather than the past'....
Allowing Republicans to get away with previous crimes
has led directly to the so-called president we are plagued with now,
and here we ARE!
I don't see any circumstance where we can 'work with criminals',
UNLESS they care to admit how they have voted to support a criminal and subvert democracy,
while begging for forgiveness!!!
A new Democratic House should pursue law enforcement against any and all
Republicans who have broken any laws---
STARTING with the third impeachment of TRUMP!!!!
But not stopping there...

(14,510 posts)For some reason it was tagged because someone thought I was referring to the democrats in Congress. I thought it was pretty clear that I meant the republicans who havent lifted a finger except to sign their paychecks. But if it came across as vague to some, I apologize.

(490 posts)holding each and every Senator and Rep. who aided in this administrations blatant criminality. They are to be held to account for the their aggregious and reckless behavior. That's how Congressional colleagues should co-exist in the near future.
