I went looking for some replacement parts

today and as part of my search results some Canadian suppliers were listed. I checked one out and in red letters in the listing was a note that said "** USA ORDERS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED". Now for some things I do have alternatives for sourcing but this gives an idea of where things are at for some companies. I would expect that some other countries will have some of their companies that follow suit.

One of the big problems for these companies is that a USA customer might order the item but who knows what the tariff rate is on any given day given the way Crumb The 1st weaves in and out of some little sense of direction. So a company in the US orders a part from somewhere and then when it comes time for the tariff to be paid they no longer want the part and so the company originating the shipment ends up spending money on pulling orders, canceling orders, restocking, re-calculating their inventory/ordering needs etc.

So unless everything can be "over calculated", paid for upfront so that things make it through and then refunding any overage it becomes a pain for these companies to continue to ship to US customers. Keeping track of that overcharge/refund scenario also becomes a nightmare.

Maybe if some company has a huge portion of their business tied to the US it would be one thing but smaller companies that are mostly serving a domestic market or other international markets the US market becomes something where a wise decision is to walk away.

I bought a camera from Japan last year that cost around $300. The warning on the ebay vendor I purchased it from told me I was responsible for tariffs. I did a quick check and found out that it was exempt under the de minimum clause.

That just recently expired - and now they have to figure out how to ship things so that the importer (you) pays the tariff.

It's less of an issue for entities that can just raise their base prices. But I expect it will take a while to sort out how best to handle these smaller one-off transactions.

orders can be in the thousands of dollars and can be repeat orders. Some could fall under the de minimus issue but seeing a blanket suspension of all orders to the US leads me to believe it is more than that. Otherwise they could have gotten around the de minimus issue by having order minimums that would have to be met. As it stands it wouldn't matter, for example, if I wanted to order $100,000 of brake drums. They would not fill the order to the US. I commend them and others doing the same.

I commend the Canadian and Mexican governments and their companies for making trade agreements with countries other than the US. The domination by the US of the trade situation has allowed this bullying situation to take place. I encourage them to also look to security agreements with other countries because of the obvious current threats by Crumb The 1st and the fascists to use our military against them and more specifically Mexico.
