A man is dead and six others are wounded after a shooter sprayed dozens of rounds Tuesday afternoon in what Minneapolis Police Chief Brian OHara described as a deeply troubling act of violence.
Police say the shooting happened just before 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of 29th Street East and Clinton Avenue, directly behind Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in the citys Phillips neighborhood.
OHara said initial reports described 30 rounds of gunfire aimed at a group of people gathered on the sidewalk, all of whom are believed to be adults. One man was pronounced dead at the scene; three of the remaining six victims were taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

(39,127 posts)Which this almost assuredly was. A "group of adults" gathered at a desolate intersection behind a school at 1:30 in the afternoon? They weren't buying Lattes.
Go to Google Maps at look at the street view of 29th & Clinton if you think I'm talking out my ass.
What would the National Guard do to stop drug & gang drive-bys? Drive through the dangerous neighborhoods in APCs looking for "groups of adults"?

(131,238 posts)to the citizens of Scotland. I've been there. Didn't see soldiers in the streets or gigantic posters of their Dear Leader on public buildings. Or daily mass shootings. If you think a country that has gun control is necessarily totalitarian and anti-freedom, you might be posting on the wrong forum.

(25,515 posts)Interesting. I will continue to call for common sense gun control and most Americans support that too.

AR15 rifles are used in about 1% of gun crime. All classifications of long guns - shotguns, hunting rifles, AR15s etc. account for about 3% of gun crime.

(20,405 posts)Virtually all polling shows a majority of Americans, even Democrats, against outlawing handguns. The only guns that get much support for bans are assault rifles.
You'd think we could at least make them less lethal, but guess again! Minnesota's courts recently overturned our ban on binary triggers, devices that let guns fire TWO shots per trigger pull. Literally no purpose other than to send wildly inaccurate fire into a large target (like a crowd), but nope.
