Health care giants are pushing hard for Congress to extend ACA insurance subsidies

"WASHINGTON — The health care industry is plotting a critical lobbying push to preserve the enhanced subsidies that help millions of people buy cheaper health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, ahead of their expiration at the end of this year.

Complicating their efforts, a legislative plan hasn’t yet formed to extend the premium tax credits, industry leaders at the center of the push said. At stake are billions of dollars for insurers and hospitals, already facing other GOP-led cuts.

Hospitals and health systems are gearing up to talk more with their members of Congress about the impacts of the subsidies running out. Insurers have made the issue a top priority for inclusion in a funding package that must pass by the end of September to avoid a government shutdown. And an expansive coalition of health sector heavyweights, Keep Americans Covered, is focusing its efforts on September as well.

“We think September in particular is a really important month,” Brendan Buck, who has led communications for Keep Americans Covered, told STAT. “We’re pushing hard to get an extension of the tax credit included in whatever vehicle they use to fund the government. We’re all building towards that.”

Enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies has helped millions of people buy cheaper health insurance will expire at the end of the year unless Congress acts.

How many people will lose their medical coverage because they cannot afford the premiums without the subsidies?

Another avoidable fiasco that was helped along by those who refused to vote for VP Harris.

1. Perhaps they shouldn't have given money to rethuglican in first place

Look at the money in the election from these groups...lots of donors to rethuglican to cut taxes. You know the ones who have been saying they will repeal Obamacare , so they get the racism points, because MAGAts hate Obamacare from that uppity black man but we need our ACA.

But, now they are realizing that low taxes doesn't help if you have no revenue.

Screw all insurance companies...they are all evil leaches and more malignant parasites on society.

Stinking rich polluting oil companies get billions in subsidies they truly don't need. Then they "donate" campaign money to repugs.

Will they help the common people this time around?

Since I am at a very low income I get tax credits. The ACA may increase to $1,200 per month. That is 40% of my income after taxes. I can afford to live.

4. Those subsidies are guarenteed money for the insurance companies.

It's keeping the system afloat, but we need universal health care.

5. That may be, except it also makes it affordable for people to pay the premiums, which if they can't pay, means

they won't have health insurance.

As for universal health care, how likely is that in the current environment?

6. The problem is not the subsidies. It's the price of insurance without them.

Insurance is crazy expensive and still doesn't cover all costs.

Health insurance is not the same as health care.

This corporate cultural brainwashing has gone on so long now, "insurance" is becoming synonymous with "health care"

8. Again, that may be, but do you really think that will change in current environment under trump and the rethugs?

If we don't win at least one House in Congress in the midterms, and the 2028 presidential election, I wouldn't count on Social Security and Medicare being around very much longer.

10. I realize that, and as I added, if we don't take back at least one House in Congress, and the presidency in

2028, I think Social Security and Medicare will be history.
