The U.S. Navy is reportedly planning a lavish parade of its own after a multimillion-dollar military parade earlier this year left President Donald Trump feeling flat.
Trump hosted the militarys largest parade in decades in Washington, D.C., on June 14 to mark 250 years of the U.S. Armyand also, conveniently, his own 79th birthday.
As well as No Kings protests against Trump across the country to coincide with the military anniversary event that cost taxpayers $30 million, footage of lackluster soldiers marching out of step went viral. Photos suggested that the president rested his eyes at one point during his birthday party. Crowd figures were also less than impressive.
A new report in The Wall Street Journal has intel from the presidents administration that a do-over parade could be in the worksthis time taking place at sea.

(25,126 posts)Doesnt Trump want throngs of crowds bowing down to him? Its hard to do that on the water.

(72,543 posts)Aircraft carriers are truly floating cities, housing thousands of personnel working in perfect synchronization. A modern American Nimitz-class supercarrier accommodates over 6,000 people during full deployment, divided between:
Ships company: 3,500-3,800 personnel
Air wing: 2,200-2,800 personnel

(25,126 posts)The U.S. doesnt have that many carriers, I dont think.
My point was simple. You can get more people on land than on ships in a harbor.
Regardless, like everything else Trump attempts, this will fail.

(72,543 posts)... has all together by a factor of two, and only the the one nuclear carrier is owned by the French is nuclear.
The US also has conventionally powered carrier used as assault carriers manned with Marine aircraft.
If he were allowed to put to sea all those "boats" in one place, he'd have a hell of a crowd.

(25,126 posts)First, the U.S. Navy cannot bring all of its carriers into one place. That would be a target-rich environment, indeed. Importantly, there are still critical missions for our armed services in other parts of the world. Besides, those warships would not be ready for battle if they were putting on an ego parade for the big baby. Further, flyovers by naval aircraft do not provide cover as they would not be carrying ordinance in such a crowded environment, (at least I believe this to be true).
Second, the square area of ocean or harbor that would be needed for such a display of so many vessels would be huge! These ships, if unanchored, require to be moving through the water in order to maintain steerage otherwise the vessel is out of control. Just imagine how many square miles would be needed to choreograph all those vessels moving at 10-knots in a crowded and confined harbor! If they are anchored, theyre vulnerable.
Lastly, you listed the personnel aboard a carrier. Those are crew but I obviously agree Trump would ridiculously inflate that number. From where are all of Trumps fans going to view the parade? On more boats thus crowding the viewing area even more? On the military vessels? (I doubt that Trumps people have forgotten Ws aircraft carrier fiasco.) Theres just not enough room if Trump wants anyone besides the naval crews to see the big event.
In 1986, we sailed to NY Harbor for that years Op-Sail celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty. The harbor was filled with tall ships, military and security vessels and many private boats. It was a crowded mess and yet we still couldnt see anything because the distances were so far.
I have not written that Trump wont do it. Im simply pointing out that the logistics are exponentially larger than his little jerk-off parade in D.C. and it would be far more difficult to get thousands of spectators on the water. As usual for Trump, this is a stupid idea.

(72,543 posts)... refit/refuel (which can take years). Just like having Blue and Gold crews on FBMs. Three months out/ three months in without considering any refuels/serious refits. Only a month at sea out of the three months. Allegedly. Then there's the pig boats .....
No way in hell would they ever be put in one place, and no one place could ever hold them and their auxiliary and support ships.
My point is he is whistling up his own ass even considering a Naval ship of the line parade. But he goes to, say Norfolk he could rouse a pretty big crowd and get some 'boats' in home port.
I think GWB was way out of line landing on the deck of the Abraham Lincoln for a photo op. TACO is beyond the pale.

USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) is the fifth Nimitz-class aircraft carrier in the United States Navy.

(13,437 posts)A sub tour has ample opportunities for a dangerous tripping and head hitting going through hatches incident. And the chance of a lethal "accidental" radiation exposure seems like wishful thinking now.
Those fat cankles could never make it down a hatch ladder without him falling....wait...
