So far, it looks like they are trying to imitate their 21st century soulmates, Hugo Chávez and Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela: take a country with immense wealth in natural resources, a reasonably educated population, and have the ruling elite grab everything for themselves. Then let the rest of the population slide downward into a thoroughly preventable misery. Prevent them from rising up in revolt by complete control of police, media, military and political activity. He didn’t run everything personally, but he was the towering symbol. Trump is 79 and slipping mentally. Their symbol won’t last as long.

There is a good reason why Ukrainians fleeing their country to escape the war always head west, never east. I think much of the USA will tell Miller & co. that “we refuse to become what you are trying to make of us,” and that the Trumpanzees will not be able to assemble the manpower to make it happen. ALL the other countries I named above have, at some point, let themselves be oppressed by a malevolent, selfish regime. I don’t (yet) think we’ll be such a pushover. I see our greatest threat as being a downward slide so gradual that we don’t notice it. If we notice it, we would do something about it. Miller can’t (yet) order a nuclear strike on Los Angeles, although it’s bad enough that he’d probably like to.
