By Alexander Willis

Political strategist and columnist Rick Wilson laid into RFK Jr. Thursday following the Health and Human Services secretarys firing of Susan Monarez, the Trump-appointed director for the Centers for Disease Control, calling him a serial killer and warning that the death toll of the decision would be "unimaginable.
RFK, Jr., heroin addict, sex addict, anti-vaccination lunatic and aspiring architect of millions of deaths purged the CDC last night, Wilson wrote Thursday on his Substack Against All Enemies. He gutted the worlds premiere public-health agency in his endless quest to destroy vaccine science and plunge this nation into the Middle Ages.
The HHS fired Monarez on Wednesday citing her reckless directives, though Monarez has vowed to remain in her position, with her lawyers calling the firing legally deficient. Inside sources have said the firing followed a clash between Monarez and RFJ Jr. over, potentially, the HHS secretarys position on vaccines, which he has long claimed are linked to autism, a claim thoroughly debunked by the scientific community.

That said, I would not appoint a known addict - even my dear friend - to such a post of high responsibility for other people. It's potentially disastrous for the public, and isn't helpful to the addict (even if they may think it is).

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Thursday that she will soon end public health disaster proclamations that Iowa has operated under since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic nearly two years ago.
The shift will include pulling the plug on a state website focusing on COVID data, such as the number of Iowans testing positive for the disease, being hospitalized with it or dying from it. However, many of those statistics will continue to be available on other state and federal websites, Kelly Garcia, interim director of the Iowa Department of Public Health, said Thursday...

(658 posts)Bird Flu is here right now and probably closer than most of us think. We had two beautiful outdoor Cats die recently within a couple days of each other of what I suspect might have been Bird Flu. The symptoms were pretty close to what I read were those of Bird Flu. Pretty awful. I gloved and masked when I was near them just in case. They both started showing symptoms around the same time, then they seemed to improve. I was thinking they were recovering. That only lasted a few days until they went suddenly really bad. They were gone 2 days apart.
I suspect we're going to see a real upsurge in Covid deaths with RFKjr/Trump running things. If something like Bird Flu gets loose in the population we're in real trouble with those two morons at the helm.
They're murdering Americans and deserve the death penalty.
crimycarny
(2,090 posts)First and foremost, I am so sorry you lost your two beautiful cats. To try and nurse them only to see them go downhill and then pass, that has to be excruciating.
I remember months ago reading about the alarm over cats contracting bird flu, as cats are a gateway to humans (not sure why cats, but apparently not all mammals are gateways, but cats are). The risk is low, but it alarmed those watching the bird flu.
Bird flu is terrifying As you said, if Bird Flu gets loose in the population, it will make COVID seem like a cake walk. I can't even.....ugh.

(658 posts)As I mentioned they both appeared to be getting better. We were thinking they were on the road to recovery. We came out one morning and it was obvious one had taken a sudden sharp turn for the worse overnight. That was on a Friday. Vets around here are always booked up. We tried to get an appointment but nothing was available until Monday. That Cat passed away Saturday morning. The second Cat got bad by Saturday morning and was gone by Monday morning. Tessie and Smoki, both beautiful Siamese. Smoki was Tessie's daughter. Smoki was probably the prettiest Cat I've ever seen and not even a year old. Her brother Snowbie survived somehow and never appeared sick. He is still with us and as cute as ever.
Whatever took them did it in less than 2 weeks.
Week one
Mild symptoms, a bit of Eye redness conjunctivitis, otherwise acting normal and eating
Week two
Seemed to be recovering, eating normally, conjunctivitis easing
End of Week two
Sudden hard turn, eyes watering profusely, not eating, extreme lethargy, gone in 2 days
We have indoor Cats also and have seen similar symptoms as week one, all recovered just fine so we didn't think it was anything serious during the first period. The indoor Cats never go outside. The change with Tessie and Smoki was overnight and sudden.
If anyone reading this has Cats who are indoor/outdoor or outdoor watch them closely if you see similar symptoms. All I can assume is that one of them caught and consumed an infected bird and shared or passed it to the other assuming it was actually bird flu. We'll never know for sure.

Even so it was obvious that neither one of them were going to make it even with a Vet. I've never seen anything as brutal as whatever this was. I knew as soon as I saw the change that they weren't going to make it. It was brutal. I've held several of our past kitties paws so to speak as they struggled through their final days. This was nothing like that. This was sudden and brutal and fast. They didn't have a chance. Thanks for the thoughts anyway. I know you meant well.

problems. Sure "the enemy of my enemy is my friend," BUT AS ALWAYS, that's only temporary.
So no, this is not "correct":
Don't trust that Wilson is anything but a guilt-ridden opportunist who knows he helped get us here.
We might "feel" his outrage, but we must not buy into his solutions; we must remember that Wilson's solutions are not how the Democratic Party works.

(1,939 posts)Please be so kind as to tell us how the Democratic Party works. From what I've seen the last decade plus, every Democrat either thinks we go "high" (thanks Michele!) because we're better than them or Democrats have no answer or a thousand maybe's of which the centrist Democrats can't agree because it might affect THEM.
ancianita
(43,307 posts)the Democratic Party's backing and use of rule of law doesn't work, then
a) you don't know that it's the US 'rule of law' courts and judges who are still holding this democratic government together, and
b) you endorse right wing violence as the only punishment due to the current tyrant.
Paolo Freire calls what you and Wilson want The Pedagogy of the Oppressed.[/i]
The idea that the oppressed become the new oppressors is a concept known as the cycle of oppression, that without a proper understanding of liberation and a conscious effort to humanize both the oppressed and their oppressors, the formerly oppressed may simply internalize the values of their oppressors and replicate the same patterns of injustice once they gain power. The struggle for freedom must aim at restoring humanity and creating a new society, rather than merely switching roles.
The takeaway is that merely removing an oppressor without transforming underlying corrupt systems and consciousness of the people will not solve the issue of oppression.
Don't blame everything -- party centrists, party this or that blah blah -- that doesn't work on your own damn political party.
The Party works. It's the current election and damaged federal government structures that don't work.
Your turn.

(1,939 posts)When the Democrats (other than Gavin) actually do something that is meaningful and actually opens the eyes of the "common Democrat" and produces a response in more than one medium, I'm sure you'll let us know, right!
ancianita
(43,307 posts)Are you saying that over the last 6 months, "common Democrats" haven't seen what congressional Democrats are doing? Not even once? If so, then "other than Gavin" you yourself clearly haven't been paying attention, and/or you and "common Democrats" -- who you imply that you speak for -- don't want to know.
If you did, you'd have seen Jeffries and Schumer are on MSNBC at least once or twice weekly while congress was in session.
Not only that, but Jeffries & Schumer put theirs and other Democrats' congressional speeches before CSPAN cameras and into the Congressional Record. Maybe you don't remember that Cory Booker's 25 hour speech about the big ugly bill was covered by all networks and made headlines -- "in more than one medium."
Maybe you didn't see that Schumer has made numerous appearances, particularly in relation to:
-- Debates and discussions on government funding, including a notable instance in March 2025 where he initially opposed then supported a Republican spending bill to avoid a government shutdown.
This decision generated significant news coverage and backlash from within his own party.
He appeared on programs such as Meet the Press to defend his position.
-- Floor remarks and press conferences on various topics such as Trump's policies, Project 2025, trade tariffs, Social Security, and aid to Israel.
-- Interviews on his book "Antisemitism in America: A Warning," including appearances on CBS Mornings and -- The New York Times' "The Interview".
-- Media appearances and press conferences on issues like Trump's nominees and the Epstein Files.
-- A postponed book tour due to security concerns after his funding bill decision, which also generated news coverage.
Maybe you haven't noticed that minority leader Hakeem Jeffries has done the same in the House. On August 11 he slammed the felon for seizing control of DC Police -- "in more than one medium, "YouTube videos and The Hill reported it.

Whether because of poor memory or just lack of attention, when you make stuff up about the party by claiming it doesn't do enough, it makes you, not the party, look a bit inattentive and/or lazy. I'll even bet that "common Democrats" know more of these things than you think.

(100,133 posts)I am not the only one suffering from this cultish anti-science movement. Abstract principles have become all-too-personal.
For what NotRFK has unleashed and will continue to unleash, I am in accord with Rick Wilson. As far as I am concerned, horsewhipping is too good for him, but I would settle for a short sharp hanging from the nearest tree, as Rick Wilson put it.
Consider the children crippled by diseases long-conquered. Consider the children and their grandparents dead of infectious diseases we know how to manage.
NotRFK is fully aware of what hes doing, and he is a psycho who enjoys the power of death.

(43,307 posts)Republican dirty politics has been bought and paid for since the days of Lee Atwater and Karl Rove. We've played by one set of fact-based issues and campaign rules while they've played by dirty and dishonest campaign rules.
Yes, they and Stephen Miller, their mouthpiece, have clearly declared full on war against the liberal big tent Democratic Party and they will try to win it by any means necessary -- by dirty politics, gerrymandering, voter suppression, threats and violence.with that for decades and yet we've still won.
Anyway, you're preaching to the converted here. We know what they threaten... to pay gunners (and promise to set their families up for life if they're killed) to mass shoot in battleground states, which then gives the felon "cause" for deploying troops into battlegrounds -- to "protect his beautiful christians ... Nice church ya got here, too bad if somethin' happened to it."
Variations of this protection racket strategy will likely be repeated in every battleground state over the next 14 months.
Their election goal: to keep christians from voting, keep the rest of the state intimidated to stay away from election polls so as to shut down a high turnout that current polls show could happen -- e.g., the Iowa special election -- which we won anyway, as we have all the other special elections of the last year.
We've put up with their spectrum of performative nothingburger governing, taking away from the People, fighting vote certification in the courts, their cheating in a hundred ways, and yet when the country sees the chips are down, we win more than not.

(6,915 posts)but by then the deaths will be VERY REAL. Are you in favor of the death penalty if his policies do kill MANY people and he is held to account? I think Wilson is speaking in hyperbole btw, but i think he is speaking with the same visceral rage that i'm feeling right now as the parent of an autistic child. The calm sense of reason you are appealing for seems very far away. I'm going to step away and let people rage without judgement.

(43,307 posts)I'll accept a "death in life" life sentence with no parole for those who've been proven in court to knowingly cause deaths of many people.
Reason and rule of law create an orderly town, state and country. What you sound like you want is ongoing venting, which wastes energy, loses focus on what the goal is, and doesn't help us get votes but just plays into the emotional manipulations that the RW has always used.
Reason is only far away from those who choose to move far from it. Hand wringing and letting feelings control us -- instead of the other way around -- has never helped the Democrats. We need to give that up -- it's a bad emotional habit -- and stand behind strong governors and leaders like Newsom, Pritzker and our other leaders.

(38 posts)It amazes me that RFK Jr, being around my age, grew up seeing the same things I did: People crippled by polio, infants dying from whooping cough, babies born deaf or blind because their pregnant mothers caught rubella, class mates who died of complications of pneumonia or encephalitis from measles, and some who survived left brain-damaged or deaf, encephalitis from chicken pox, testicular inflammation from mumps that resulted in sterility, death or crippling complications from meningitis, but he is doing his damnedest to eliminate vaccination for ALL these preventable diseases. My generation is now suffering from shingles caused by the chicken pox virus we still have in our bodies, or developing multiple cancers from human papilloma virus because we were born too late for those vaccines. He's ended all research and development of bird flu vaccines, as well as new COVID variants. Without a bird flu vaccine, the death toll from that could be the same as the 1918 flu epidemic,
which killed as many as 100 million people worldwide (COVID killed 6.2 million.) BTW, the 1918 flu strain originated in birds as well. mRNA research has been halted, not just for vaccines, but as treatment for cancer, autoimmune and other diseases or conditions as well. This man may wind up being responsible for more deaths than any serial killer or mass murderer in human history.
