The Current Situation at the CDC is Completely Bonkers

Trump nominated Susan Monarez to head the CDC. She was confirmed by the Senate and sworn in on July 31. Yes, 30 days ago.

On Monday, RFK Jr. summoned her to his office and told her to fire a bunch of top staff and accept the findings of his wackadoodle vaccine panel. She told him to kick rocks.

So he "fired" her. But she says he can't fire her; only the President can.

So WH Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt today says that Trump fired her, or the White House fired her - it's unclear. But Monarez says that Trump hasn't!

And, at this point (4pm EDT on Thursday, August 28), Trump has not been heard from on this matter!

What in the absolute world?!? The chaos is beyond even the usual for this bunch. And where's Trump?

You'd expect Trump to be on camera doing the "You're fired" routine as soon as she said nobody could fire her but Trump. But he's gone radio silent, while RFK Jr. is out there with his dick in the wind (perhaps literally).

If Trump's going to knife him, it's going to be an early 2028 move. He's already reduced Vance to a vacationing fool, so it's time to cut off RFK Jr. at the knees.

But it's a hard sell because Leavitt looks like an absolute fool today, and Trump can't abide that. The fact that she said Trump fired Monerez and that Monerez contradicted that is a big deal, and signals deeper chaos. I can see him hanging RFK Jr. out to dry, but not his own press secretary. Other shit seems to be afoot.
