Neil Young Responds to Donald Trump's Takeover of D.C. With Vicious New Protest Song 'Big Crime'

Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts played Chicago’s Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island on Wednesday evening, and near the end of the main set, they debuted a new song titled “Big Crime” that absolutely scorches Donald Trump and his federal takeover of Washington, D.C.

“Don’t need no fascist rules,” Young sings. “Don’t want no fascist school/Don’t want soldiers on our streets/There’s big crime in D.C. at the White House … No more money to the fascists/the billionaire fascists/Time to blackout the system.”

Complete video of the public performance has hit YouTube, and Young posted audio of the soundcheck rendition along with the lyrics on the Neil Young Archives. Head here to check it out in full on the NYA and look above for the live performance.

“Big Crime” is the only tune in the set that makes specific reference to Trump and his policies, but there are numerous protest songs — including “Be the Rain,” “Southern Man,” “Ohio,” and “Sun Green” — that show exactly where Young’s head is right now.

At a sort of rickety outdoor stadium in NJ for a C,S,N & Y concert. It's summer, and the atmosphere is expectant.

Watergate...abounds.. Rumours...is it tonight?!. Will...he....
Radios are plentiful: little transistors, 5" x 8" inchers, and the biggest carryable but Pre-Boom Box type! 😄

The concert begins. We're rockin'.
About ?2/3rd of the way through, and a finished song someone dashes to ?Stills from stage left. They whisper in his ear.

Stills steps up to the microphone.
"Nixon has Rsigned!!!

AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!! Joyous Pandemonium! Omg!
😄😄😄😄😄

At the end of the show ~ fireworks!!!
Our Democracy wins that night!

Neil is always in my top 3, with Old Man as his contribution, although the tune changes from time to time. Needle And The Damage Done for example.

As an added plus, I'm attracted to mermaids.

His solo at the end of Like a Hurricane is virtuoso stuff.
