San Francisco Chronicle / 8-29-25
SACRAMENTO Gov. Gavin Newsom is sending state police to more California cities, a tactic that his office has used for years to fight crime but now carries different meaning as President (Krasnov) deploys federal troops to liberal areas of the country.
California Highway Patrol officers will be dispatched to the Bay Area, San Diego, the Inland Empire, Los Angeles, the Central Valley and Sacramento, Newsoms office announced Thursday morning.
Newsom, a Democrat, said the deployments are happening in coordination with local officials. That would be in contrast to (Krasnovs) deployment of active duty troops to Los Angeles, which occurred over the objection of Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.
The community wants to see more, and we are trying to be responsive to the people we serve, Newsom told reporters at a news conference in his office Thursday. As it relates to the president in particular, hes doing things to people, not with people. Its a point of profound, consequential contrast.

More (form the link):
Krasnov threatened last week to send federal troops to San Francisco and Oakland, listing "liberal cities" (including Chicago and NYC) as those he wanted to clean up.
Newsom quote (from the link):
"If (Krasnov) is sincere about the issue of crime and violence, theres no question in my mind that hell likely be sending the troops into Louisiana and Mississippi to address the just unconscionable wave of violence that continues to plague those states. In graph presented at the press conference, Newsom pointed out that Louisianas murder rate is nearly four times higher than Californias. In Mississippi, which Newsom said is the murder capital of the country, the murder rate is 180% higher than Los Angeles.

Excellent tactical move.

(3,141 posts)How hard is it for police to just confirm the identities of the kidnappers to at the very least ensure they are not imposter kidnappers -and are in fact kidnappers who were sent by the government, and that they are acting.... legally?

(14,907 posts)And I think they should.
On the other, I think its probably a tough position to be in knowing that if you give such an order, it will likely be ignored by the people you are giving it too.

(2,628 posts)I think there is a fear of finding outjust how deeply MAGAots have infiltrated different groups.....U.S. Military, National Guards, Secret Service, FBI, ATF, DOJ, Etc, Etc, Etc..................
I am sure we would love to know, but at the same time fearful of what the reality may be........

(14,907 posts)We have built our law enforcement agencies to enforce authoritarianism and racism and other isms. And we have WELL funded them
It should not be a surprise to anyone that they then support these things.

(2,628 posts)the Police Departments hire all the military who have been fighting wars, outfit them in the same gear, provide them with similar assault weapons and the same armored vehicles and they see no difference between who they were fighting against in the war, and the U.S. Citizens.......Along with the fact that many of them probably are suffering from PTSD and not really thinking straight.....
WHILE THE NATION SLEPT............

(33,316 posts)it's to establish a by-the-law enforcement presence before Krasnov can send his Gestapo. It's a preemptive move as I mentioned in the OP.

(2,331 posts)The Crime Suppression Teams will:
Identify and suppress criminal activity in high-crime areas through data and intelligence-led policing.
Conduct proactive enforcement operations designed to deter and disrupt organized crime.
Provide increased CHP visibility and presence in communities most impacted by crime.
Support local law enforcement by sharing intelligence, coordinating enforcement, and assisting with investigations.
Maintain strict accountability through structured leadership, clear reporting, and operational oversight.

(29,512 posts)Maybe over by Cesar Chavez Park, City Hall, etc. We live quite close to the Capital itself, and we see them and the Rangers all over that area when we are walking, riding bikes, whatever. Not a huge deal for Sac. Gavin is smart to do this.

(2,331 posts)SACRAMENTO With crime dropping statewide, Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the next phase of his crime-fighting efforts deploying new CHP crime suppression teams to work directly with local law enforcement in major cities and regions across the state San Diego, Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Central Valley, Sacramento, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
When the state and local communities work together strategically, public safety improves. While the Trump Administration undermines cities, California is partnering with them and delivering real results. With these new deployments, were doubling down on these partnerships to build on progress and keep driving crime down.
Governor Gavin Newsom
Todays announcement builds on successful CHP efforts already underway in Oakland, Bakersfield, and San Bernardino. CHP officers assigned to Crime Suppression Teams will saturate high-crime areas, target repeat offenders, and seize illicit weapons and narcotics. Enforcement will take place in the San Diego, Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Central Valley, Sacramento, and the San Francisco Bay Area regions.
These crime suppression teams will provide critical support to our local partners by focusing on crime where it happens most, said CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee. By combining resources, intelligence, and personnel, we can better disrupt criminal activity and strengthen the safety and security of communities across California.
