(8,637 posts)He only was on the ticket because nobody else would take it, knowing it was doomed. Before Walz was selected there was a lot of talk about Shapiro in the Veepstakes. No way Shapiro was going to get on that sinking ship.
I know it's unpopular to say here, but Harris' campaign was doomed from go, and anybody with political sense knew it.

Just curious

(24,391 posts)But my US taxes are significantly reduced because I reside in Canada, so they have first priority on taxing my income, even though most of it comes from US pensions, SS and other US retirement sources.
Theres a tax treaty that prevents double taxation (mostly).

(24,391 posts)Not that impressive.
Now Whitmer, in Michigan, did more in one year with a single seat majority than either Newsom or Pritzker have done their entire terms.
That is impressive

(8,008 posts)Theses governors are on the frontlines against Trump and fighting like heck. Their rhetorical skills are a necessary asset to win the Presidency. I would gladly vote for either, but I am not sure of the combination on a ticket.

(2,114 posts)He's low-key but also smart and obviously can appeal to red voters since he's managed to win the Governorship in a very red state.
I wasn't a fan of Gavin for President previously, as I felt he would be too "radical" for Republicans. But I've changed my mind after seeing how he is successfully fighting back more effectively than any other Democratic leader. Unfortunately, our political landscape has devolved into performance art, and Gavin is demonstrating that he can navigate it in today's world.
Beshear would help offset Gavin's sort of lightning rod effect, for lack of a better word. He's smart, he's low-key (doesn't get riled up), and he's been an effective Governor. He would also be ok with being the "second hand man", and I feel could step into the Presidency when his time as VP is done.

(6,824 posts)Being feisty and quick witted grabs our attention. And we relish in the trolling. That is an effective lane...but. The ability to win requires a variety of skills and other facets.
The way to eliminate the cheating is to have a clear mandate. A candidate where they can attach excuses give them an out. For example - Harris lost because of racism, or misogyny, or her association with Biden, or_______(fill in the blank). The excuses are a smoke screen so they can cheat.
No baggage. No excuses.

(5,642 posts)Primary rivals sometimes join together on the same ticket: Obama-Biden and Biden-Harris. But those were more for strategic reasons.

(5,642 posts)But my memory is that Obama looked for someone more senior to complement his youth.
These two governors are pretty similar in policy and demographics so I would think they would pick a different type of VP.

(6,824 posts)putting their energies toward securing our Democracy...right now.
The media is directing the attention of the Democratic masses by amplifying certain voices. Newsom is doing a great job of trolling right now...but that is one of his skill sets...it does not mean he is the best candidate for 2028. He has some baggage.
Pritzger is smart and a fighter. He may be a good candidate. The Democratic party has a lot of fight and resistance it needs to do, right now. I am glad he is not focusing on a candidacy for 2028....for now.
There is someone the media doesn't amplify who (IMHO) deserves more attention. Chris Murphy is a great communicator and well rounded and smart. He has been emphasizing that we need to save our Democracy....right now.
Let's not let the media choose our candidates for us.
Wanderlust988

(2,484 posts)...I forget her name, but she's golden.
Gavin Newsom has very publicly taken a position that he won't be able to gracefully come back from, which is a deal breaker for millions of us hoping for some science-backed sanity and compassion.
If he was on the ticket, of course he gets my vote, but not before then.
I do think that if he becomes a candidate, Kimberly Guilfoyle will start getting a lot more air time, whatever she decides to fill it with.
