Report from a friend in Minneapolis with a Trump supporting nephew.

"MN Republicans, at least all the MAGA Trump supporting Republicans, are ridiculing the vigils, prayer services and calls for more controls and legislation on guns and ammunition. The split is raw and ugly in our local media. "

This is new for me. It never crossed my mind that even the MAGA crowd would ridicule vigils and prayer services.

that prayers aren't enough: “Don’t just say this is about thoughts and prayers right now. These kids were literally praying. It was the first week of school. They were in a church,” he said. MAGA thinks that meant he was criticizing praying. They are also all riled up by renewed calls for an assault weapons ban - Frey wants Minneapolis to ban them even though the gunners will challenge it.

I thought MAGA was dedicated to thoughts and prayers.

Super-Christian Karoline Leavitt tried to excoriate Jen Psaki for denigrating the power of prayer after the Minneapolis slaughter.

Because?

This is another performative reflex on the part of MAGA-world. Only their prayers and hollow grief have meaning. Anything that counters that assumption is evil. A liberal getting emotional on TV after another round of senseless child-murder? That must be tamped down before any 'patriot' starts winking and blinking over the question of reasonable gun regulation. The same goes for a public vigil.

Because The Gun is God in the good ole USA. The gun stands between us and tyranny.

Hypocrites.

In everything.

you've done all you need to do. You've made it look like you give a damn even if you have no intention of acting on the situation that made you decide it was necessary to make a public offer of thoughts and prayers. In all likelihood you didn't actually pray at all, and you no longer bother to give any further thought to the matter. It's enough that your voters think you thought and prayed about children murdered by some wacko with a gun they never should have been able to obtain, but in GOP-world anybody who wants a gun of any kind should be able to have one, or many. Fuck the kids, we need our guns.
