Is this why JD Sofahumper seems almost gleeful about how ready he is to take over?

(7,970 posts)Truly amazing! Must have been 1,000 folks in it under 4 ft. tall. Still impressive 86 years later.

(43,363 posts)It's more a question of whether this scene & JD's future scenes are more similar than different.
I hold that they will be very different things -- culturally and historically worlds apart.
A dear friend once told me, "People don't want the truth. They want a story."
Consider that JD will be as full of dark stories as the felon has been.
Re this post, sure, freedom of expression is a right (allegedly). It's also a coping mechanism when other freedoms are eroding.
Given the times we're in the very thick of, it would seem more important than ever to carefully consider uses of pop culture (memes, music, movies, etc.) that most closely parallel our very real troubles, rather than distract from or minimize them. And it's not as if we all don't have millions of comforting distractions available as it is.
This scene has a couple of identifiable parallels, but it can also be said to reveal a kind of wishful thinking and distraction, rather than clarity about the darkness ahead.
The overall coming of age story -- about how as children we dream for something that is, in reality, right in front us if we would but wake up and see it in the adults around us -- is more relevant in the last wake up scene. Even so, it also lulls today's people into feeling that there's a happy ending about what we finally see.
Just my too-much-coffee opinion. Have a happy weekend.

(72,531 posts)... does he have the capability to resist and repel the MAGA crowd already surrounding him?

I think we know the answer to your question. JD will be a two-faced, cowardly, schizoid mess, and Republicans in Congress will drop their fear driven loyalties to the felon & feel no allegiance to JD.

(72,531 posts)The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
