GOP Oklahoma state rep tried to gouge his wife's eyes out

Party of family values strikes again!

https://kfor.com/news/oklahoma-legislature/oklahoma-lawmaker-pleads-guilty-to-domestic-assault-injuring-wife-daughter-relative-stitt-calls-for-resignation/

"Oklahoma State Representative Ty Burns, R-Morrison, pleaded guilty to domestic assault after court documents revealed he tried to gouge out his wife’s eyes and later forced a vehicle carrying his daughter and another relative into a ditch.

Despite the plea, Burns remains in office, stepping down only from a committee chair assignment.
.....
His wife told the relative to leave and take the children. When the relative brought the 16-year-old daughter outside to her van, the documents say Burns began shaking and pushing the vehicle, yelling, “Get the **** out of here. I hate you. You are the cause of all these problems.”

Burns followed the van in his truck, forcing the vehicle into a ditch and injuring his daughter and the relative. His daughter texted another sibling a video, writing, “Dad’s ***ing crazy he just ran us off the road.”
....
Court records also describe a November incident when Burns’ wife said he “forcefully tried to gouge her eye out with his finger,” breaking a blood vessel after he became angry she made plans with friends."....(more)

I don't think they have things like laws yet. It's the Bible Belt, where men dominate over their spouses, children & relatives. I lived there among the rednecks once. It's so redneck there, their dirt is red!

That is according to Oklahoma law. The judge said he could do more unless the law is changed.

“As Attorney General, I uphold and enforce the law without fear or favor. If you do not like the fact that Rep. Burns was ‘only’ charged with a misdemeanor, then petition your legislator and the Governor to change the law. There was no legitimate justification for a felony charge in this case under current Oklahoma law.

As I said in my statement announcing his conviction, this is a very serious offense. The conviction means that any further incidents are eligible for felony charges. Rep. Burns has taken responsibility for his actions and has received the strongest punishment possible for a first-time offender with a clean record. The question of whether he should resign is a matter I will leave to his family, his constituents, and his colleagues in the legislature.”

"Burns' wife and the girl's grandmother arrived at Burns' house later that day, according to the affidavit. The couple’s three minor children were also at the house. Burns and his wife argued. Stevens wrote that investigators later saw a recording of the argument. The grandmother left the house and went to her van. Before she started the van, Burns stormed out of the house, shook and pushed the van, slammed the car doors and screamed at her to leave, the affidavit said. The affidavit said Burns then got in his truck and chased the van with the grandmother and girl inside. The representative eventually passed the van and blocked the road. "

The affidavit said Burns told the grandmother he was going to kill her while the teen screamed that Burns was going to hurt them. The grandmother was able to flee in the van, and Burns pursued them again. According to the affidavit, the teen called her mother and said, “He is going to hurt us. Mama make him stop. Please he is going to kill us.”

Investigators watched a video of the chase where Burns' daughter can be heard saying, “He is literally about to kill us.”
A real raging pos.

https://nondoc.com/2025/08/28/serious-charges-rep-ty-burns-pleads-guilty-to-domestic-abuse-assault-involving-family-members/

Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond announced the charges, guilty plea and sentence Thursday — an unusual same-day charging and adjudication. Pawnee County Associate District Court Judge Patrick Pickerell gave Burns (R-Morrison) concurrent one-year suspended sentences on each count and ordered him to attend 52 weeks of domestic violence intervention services. Pickerell granted Burns unsupervised probation following the completion of his one-year suspended sentence.

“These are serious charges,” Drummond said in a statement. “While there is no excuse for domestic violence, I am encouraged that the representative has taken responsibility for his actions and will receive counseling under terms of his sentence. Domestic violence is tragically all too common in our state. It must stop.”

This is what authoritarianism looks like in a family dynamic. Many people grow up thinking this is how power is wielded, repeated generationally.

There's a reason a lot of conservative folk are quite comfortable with authoritarianism.

Republicans are unevolved knuckle dragging fuckwits keeping progress at a standstill because they can’t handle change or
life without a hierarchy.

Totally unable to exist in a higher realm of society that doesn’t scapegoat minorities and strives twords greater equality and has no tolerance for bullies and abusers. It scares them. Pathetic Republican trash people need to go away.
