It all stays with me. I still remember the absolute devastation of a little boy being made to
board an evacuation bus with his mother on one of the bridges and being told he had to leave his little dog (a white Samoyed/Eskimo/Spitz? mix), named Snowball, behind. There was no animal rescue at that time, and I am fairly sure Snowball perished along with so many desperate humans. I can still hear the wails and see the tears on that little boy's face. That one really hit me hard...
