The FDA has not been a reliable source of news about food borne illnesses, so I subscribed to Canada's version. For two weeks now I've been receiving daily notices of various pistachio products being pulled for salmonella. Today the notice was a general notice about all pistachio products.
Please stay safe.

(34,852 posts)So yeah...
How do you even find out about Canadian recalls?
(I was wondering where their pistachios were sourced)
Boo on our non-existent FDA.
I love pistachios and was gonna make some kunefe for a get together next weekend. Looks like I won't be adding pistachios.

(2,600 posts)I never heard of kunefe, so I looked it up. Sounds delicious. Im kind of ticked off since I recently bought an expensive nut assortment as a thank you gift for a local business that did a favor for my son, but my son beat me to it with his own gift. So weve been eating the nuts, but hadnt gotten to the pistachios yet. Now Im afraid to try them.
God help us if RFK Jr. allows bird flu to run rampant, as hes proposed. Or some kind of infection in cattle. Or any kind of infection in anything, since he wont test for it. Im amazed that there isnt more pushback against these reckless policies.

(1,705 posts)We have friends that grow for the US market in California. These are Canadian imported from turkey. Lets not hurt our markets with misguided info. Pistachios arent grown in Florida.

(5,545 posts)One of my cats likes a pistachio now and then. I just buy the smallest bag and give him a couple a day for a few days.

(55,381 posts)I warn them about the $15 price tag and they don't blink.
I guess it's the mystique and online "influencers" that drive the purchases b/c it certainly isn't the taste.

(14,510 posts)and actually thought it was delicious. I didnt get much of the pistachio flavor but the chocolate was very nice. But not special enough to buy another.

Looks nauseating in person too.
Given the bad appearance and high price tag perhaps the taste is fabulous?

(134,035 posts)Ii had been wondering why I was suddenly seeing this stuff everywhere, so I went looking. Not a pretty story, but rather depressing about how easily swayed people are.
