Billy Mumy gave a dead on impression of Trump in the It's A Good Life-A Very Bad Man episode. A childish spoiled brat with the power to kill or make miserable anyone around him ends up with a town full of terrified sycophants doing his bidding. The only difference is we don't know if the Twilight Zone kid was a moron or not!

In the hellscape of Trump's brain the world is divided between predators and prey. And he actually believes he is the Apex predator -- the greatest of all time.

(744 posts)love or empathy, your life becomes a war against those that you fear might expose you as the fraud you are. That, combined with his natural hatred and cruel intentions makes him a real prize human being. Makes me really want to thank again all the voters that foisted this asshole upon us...

(744 posts)Makes some sense out of the craziness we see from this administration!
Sadism is a mental disorder characterized by the enjoyment of inflicting pain or suffering on others. It is named after the Marquis de Sade, a French writer known for his sexually explicit novels that often depicted sadistic themes.

(13,856 posts)Too bad he was such a monster. But assuming the hopeful note the episode ended on (with Anthony's likely rehabilitation) perhaps he'd be willing...
Anthony, 47 is a very very bad man. The entire regime are very, very, bad people. Wish them into the cornfield. Please, wish them into the cornfield. Please.

You might also want to check out sez.us. It's early days there, but it's designed from the bottom up to eliminate bots and promote engagement without interference of algorithms. I make a point of spending a little time there most days to support what they are doing. So far, it's an interesting community of people, many of whom emphasize the things I value -- things that help feed a positive feedback loop of hope and action in these dark times.

This time around, it feels more like being trapped in the pages of a dystopian fantasy novel. Either way, it feels surreal and scary.

(346 posts)I had that Twilight Zone feeling the night that Trump's election was announced in 2016. This can't actually be happening. There just is now way. I must have done something to switch to an alternate universe or something. Through the next couple of years I began to see how it was possible, through sexism, gullibility of the masses, adoration of TV celebrities, etc. Trump was unproven as a president. Yet in 2024 everyone knew what a POS he is. The Twilight Zone feeling came back, with a vengeance. Or maybe the Bobby Ewing shower time slip. I don't know. I keep waking up hoping it will all be revealed as a bad dream.
