because their 'papers aren't quite in order'??!!!!
That's what they've been doing, what I keep reading about--- which ought to prove that the Republicans'
"I'm pro family" rhetoric has always been a BIG LIE from the very beginning!!!!
And their opposition to Gay marriage to "protect the sanctity of marriage"
was always nothing but an anti-Gay HATE campaign---
since they have no problem at all with ripping husbands and wives
away from their U.S. citizen spouses and deporting them,
just because all their "papers" may not be totally in order,
PROVES that they DON'T GIVE A SHIT about the 'sanctity of marriage' !!!
I guess I've been very naive about immigration policy, since I never had to deal with it directly,
but I always believed that any immigrant was entitled to live in this country,
if they were married to an American citizen---
and ESPECIALLY, their American citizen mate is ENTITLED to HAVE THEM HERE WITH THEM!!!!
(and that is the way the laws SHOULD be, IMHO!)
But now I am educated that they still have to have a valid green card or whatever---
but ripping them away from their U.S. citizen spouse, especially if they have been here for years,
and deporting them is despotic---
and in many cases, taking mothers and fathers away from their U.S. citizen children!!!
THAT is an ANTI-FAMILY attack on the Rights of U.S. CITIZENS to "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness",
and I think we ought to start framing the issue from THAT point of view--- !!!!!
(as well as about issues of due process to which the non-citizens are entitled)
Ripping apart the families of U.S. citizens, which is what they are doing in many instances,
is an action that the vast majority of Americans would never attempt to justify...
and that is where we ought to continuously ATTACK the Republicans,
because it is simply an abominably inhumane and anti-family action!!!
Of all the sad stories about undocumented people being arrested and deported,
these examples are the ones that outrage me the most!
(and a dramatization of THAT would make a very powerful political advertisement!!!)

(1,140 posts)I dont post often, but this gets me. They are tearing us down. Us, being a polite and civil society has been/is being ripped away.
And, they DO NOT show their faces or IDs.
This is a bunch of BS. What I hope for is for their rights, privileges be stripped away. Similar to the Japanese Internment Camps. three hots and a cot for a lengthy period of time

Of course I agree that in many cases they are also attacks on whatever rights
that the immigrants are entitled to, and ICE is being used outside of the law,
but in all the controversy over Trump's deportation policies,
I have never yet read about how this is an ATTACK on all of the U.S. CITIZENS,
who chose to marry a non-citizen--- but it IS
and is also an attack on their U.S. CITIZEN CHILDREN---
whose FATHER or MOTHER has been whisked away
because their immigration papers may not be totally in order
(or they get arrested because the ICE agents DON'T CARE about their papers---
and many are too stupid to understand who is legal and who is not)
Beyond the legal questions about immigrant status,
NO U.S. CITIZEN SHOULD HAVE THEIR WIFE OR HUSBAND RIPPED AWAY FROM THEM
because of the spouse's "immigration status"!!!

(17,630 posts)It is amazing how incompetently this issue has been framed.
No one talks about it as a barrier to the pursuit of happiness for American citizens - kids, wives, husbands
I completely agree.

(5,244 posts)have mostly either ignored or downplayed the effects that the Trump deportation efforts
are having on the families of U.S. CITIZENS--- and THAT needs to change!!

(or even if something was NOT actually 'wrong', as the case might be) ??
