In Baton Rouge on a Halloween night in 1981 a home owner shot a 13 year old wearing army fatigues costume carrying a plastic machine gun.

When a neighbor down the street blows a kid away point blank with a .357 magnum shot, you remember it 44 years later like I do. A kid dead for nothing. Sick.

I don't care how annoyed a person is, you don't shoot even the most annoying ding-dong-ditcher. This guy murdered a child AND blew up his life and the lives of his wife and kids just because he was pissed off.

This CNN article has a photo of the child who was murdered: https://edition.cnn.com/2025/09/03/us/houston-ding-dong-ditch-shooting-wwk

Ringing someone's doorbell and running away is a mischievous children's prank. At worst, the law might view it as harassment, maybe even trespassing if signs are present.

We don't have a lot of crime. Every small town has drugs but other than that, not much. I don't lock my doors.

Was talking with a Magat who said he had a loaded rifle in his bedroom with a strobe light attached to blind the hordes of zombies who may decide to attack him. Or for some other stupid reason.

Conclusions: Guns kept in homes are more likely to be involved in a fatal or nonfatal accidental shooting, criminal assault, or suicide attempt than to be used to injure or kill in self-defense.

...took a gunny sack with some cow manure and a little gasoline to the home of a teacher we disliked, lit the sack on the front porch, rang the doorbell and ran like hell. In today's world, that would get the death penalty from a homeowner like this guy. It is sick.

I’m not condoning what the man did. He could have just shot into the air to scare the living shit out of them, but made the wrong choice. Whatever else he has in his house makes no difference.
