How is this not government waste to spend millions of dollars for jets to burn tons of jet fuel to fly over every college town for a coupla days? The most bloated government department needs MORE money for pilots to practice?

As well as being a recruiting/PR rah-rah thing.
That being said, they are annoying, especially if you live near the stadium that isn't under an airport flight path.

Why do they need flight hours in such a way? It's not really practice for a combat situation if you're flying over a cheering crowd for the home team. It's always been Pentagon Pro War Propaganda.

Doesn't matter if we're at war or not. Those planes are going to fly, either over desert or countryside, or over football stadiumd.
And I did commiserate with you about having to put up with the DoD PR campaign that is the College Football Flyover.
They started that for Gulf War II, because the NCAA liked the recruiter Ad money.

Here's the reason for those planes flying. You don't want pilots flying planes who only jump in a cockpit three or four hours twice a year, like it's a video game. That kills people, people in the air, and people on the ground.
Got a problem with the Military in general, that's valid. Got a problem with Military Recruiting at Football Games, that's really valid.
Flying to keep reservist pilots practiced and trained is also valid. Though I am sorry for pets, kids, and those with personal trauma that are affected.

I've seen your posts Irish_Dem and know you grew up in an AF family. I did too. Grew up hearing B-52's at WPAFB. My Dad was one of the engineers who built those aircraft.

I don't hate the military. I hate the fucking waste, fraud and abuse in the military!

Those B52s were quite an airplane.
That is so neat your Dad built them.

We were always so in awe of the people who built the airplanes and kept them flying.

People don't realize that USAF flight crews have thousand of people working behind the scenes
to keep those planes in the air.

My Dad was too young to actually design the B52. He worked in composites building the Jets we see today.

He worked at WPAFB where the B52s were keeping me awake during the 1960s and beyond.

A friend of mine was an industrial psychologist/engineer and he
only worked on the instrument panels on a certain type of USAF jet.
To make sure it was user friendly for USAF pilots and crew.

He worked as a civil engineer, former AF btw. The job required him to travel to California and other states to do business with Grumman and other contractors often.

Made him a pretty absentee father.
