Who thought we'd ever see the day?
Essentially, already civil war. Often the most violent type of war.

(964 posts)I did a small amount of digging myself, and it looks like salt trucks and sanitation vehicles were used on Thursday to protect protesters, because earlier this week a car drove through a barricade into a a group of protesters.
From the article linked below ...
https://wgntv.com/news/chicago-news/more-ice-protests-expected-thursday-in-chicago/
Quite a few of the reddit users on the sub where this was posted did research and coud not find any mention or any report about salt trucks blocking ICE/NG, even though they wished it was true.
A couple of excerpts ...
"Seriously, is this reported anywhere? If not mods need to remove it. I cant find one reliable source. Edit: and OP is a 20 day old account that keeps posting Truth Social links as a source. This feels like a disinformation campaign."
"theres no source, only online fan fiction. That would be badass though. Guess thats why gullible folks share it."
"Exactly, and its the same blurry TikTok video being passed around. Whats the chance all these trucks are out and in two days nobody else posts anything."
"Doesnt seem to be true, or at least no confirmation."
"The taste of Chicago is going on at millennium park/grant park rn Im not saying there isnt increased awareness right now but this is also part of typical road blocking and traffic diversion in Chicago for major events especially around grant park and millennium."
etc, etc.

I agree there are no reliable sources as of rn and its very fishy but honestly reading it made me happy and also I dont really get how it being a disinformation campaign would help them?

Theres a reason this group has unsourced information as a violation. Heres some info from the EU on how and why it works (the need to feel happy is part of it).
I hope its true but if its not its a great job at building mistrust and invalidating the reliability of this sub. Its also identified people who are good sources to spread disinformation in the future.

"What are the origins of the salt truck story?
The false narrative that Chicago's mayor ordered salt trucks to block ICE was created on Threads on September 6, 2025. The disinformation post spread quickly across social media platforms like Threads and Facebook.
The story likely capitalizes on genuine events and issues to lend it credibility:
-- Existing political tensions: There has been real-world friction between Mayor Brandon Johnson's administration and federal immigration authorities regarding policies for migrants.
-- Misappropriation of past Chicago events: The post likely draws on previous, unrelated events where Chicago has used city vehicles for blocking. For example, the city used dump trucks as barricades during protests and high-security events in the past, including the 2012 NATO Summit and later protests under Mayor Lightfoot.
-- Political polarization: The story's inflammatory nature is designed to provoke a reaction and fuel existing political divides around immigration and border security.
The specific Threads post that originated the false story alleged state complicity from the Illinois Department of Transportation, suggesting an organized effort against federal law enforcement. While the post has been flagged as misinformation, it serves as an example of how fabricated stories can quickly gain traction online by exploiting real-world tensions. "
