Ex-girlfriend of Rep. Cory Mills says in hearing she 'begged' him to stop contacting her
U.S. Rep. Cory Mills sat in a courtroom as his ex-girlfriend − the reigning Miss United States and a Columbia County Republican Party state committeewoman − described how 11 times in May and June she asked, then begged him to stop contacting her.
Lindsey Langston, 26, who was seeking a protection order, told a Columbia County judge on Friday, Sept. 5, that Mills, a second-term Republican congressman from New Smyrna Beach, might harm her or a future boyfriend or even himself. Those fears, she said, trumped her concern that he might act on threats to share sex videos of her.
"I lost everything that I thought that I wanted, including a future with him," she said, sobbing. "So I'm just begging him, please, please, please, just let me have the last two things that I have now (which) are being a state committeewoman and Miss United States. Like, please don't take that from me. Like, I already had to come home, my head down with my tail between my legs. Please, just let me have this."
Mills represents Seminole County and southern Volusia County in Florida's 6th District.
In a hearing that exceeded the allotted 90-minute time limit set by Columbia County Circuit Judge Fred Koberlein, Jr., Langston and Mills both testified about why she should or shouldn't be granted an injunction of protection against dating violence. But the hearing couldn't be concluded, as Langston's attorney Bobi Frank of Alachua was about to cross-examine Mills when the judge said the attorneys were out of time and would have to continue the hearing on another date.
