In three weeks, Democrats must vote to pass Trump's budget...

....or not?

Some are saying that they should shut the government down. It is not a government that is working for the people.

I simply cannot see anyone voting to fund a private army for Donald Trump to put on our streets to incite violence and anger within our cities.

All the funding for ICE should be removed. Take away the private army.

If they refuse, shut down the government.

Are Democrats as powerless as some folks say?

Moreover, Trump doesn't care one way or another. He will do whatever he wants, whether it is appropriated or not, and nobody will stop him.

That being the case, Dems should be doing their work OUTSIDE the Capitol building, not inside. We don't need any more flowery floor speeches. Take the fight to the streets, to the media, to the podcasts,.

Bernie has been running rallies that bring in tens of thousands of people and media coverage. Rather than continually pissing on Bernie, they should be joining him.

Senate leadership would put up a fight, but I expect that they will fold like they did last time.

First, there is not a single budget bill. They usually pass the farm bill separate from the defense bill separate from ...

And the normal procedure is to put the least popular stuff into the bills that everybody is afraid to vote against. So don't count on much resistance inside the Capitol. What we need is strong push-back OUTSIDE the Beltway. And it is getting late for that. I will never understand how Dems think it is smart to just lay low on these things.

Even when they plan to oppose these bills, you never hear any clear demands of what the Dems insist must be in the bill. The public looks at that and they have no reason to give Dems credit for anything.

Why are we not out there on the Sunday morning shows TODAY with our list of demands that must be in the bill? Sure, the GOP might pass it without us. But the most important thing is to show the American people WHAT we are willing to fight for. At this point, who knows?

( Calvin Trillin)

When a Democrat is in the White House, the shows mostly invite Republicans to "get the opposing viewpoint." When a Republican is in the White House, these shows mostly invite Republicans because "they are the party in charge."

Also, who watches that crap anymore? They used to be influential; they are not any longer.

9. What you say is true, but WE must take some responsibility for that.

I mean, why SHOULD Dems be invited when they rarely say anything noteworthy? It really isn't good TV to put Schumer on to say that if people don't watch out, he might think about sending a sternly-worded letter.

If we had Dems united and a bit more belligerently demanding a clear list of very specific things, maybe the networks would be more interested in having them on.

What is Jeffries' list of demands for Dem support of the budget? Schumer's? Has anybody seen such a list?

I have not.

I told them that TSF already cut funding for anything that benefits people, and turned the DOJ, HHS, etc. against us. There is no reason to pass a budget for these people.

OK, but remember that you will be stopping the paychecks of thousands and thousands of government employees who are funded by discretionary spending...including active duty troops.

I don't think you can assume the GOP would blink and give us what we want in a showdown. Hell, they're the ones who are reveling in the destruction of the government.
