Immigration and Customs Enforcement is taking aim at Massachusetts as Trump administration officials have pledged to flood sanctuary cities with agents in the coming weeks.

“ICE launched ‘Patriot 2.0’ to target the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens living in the state of Massachusetts, following the success of Operation Patriot in May,” a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said in a statement.

The ICE escalation also comes as the Trump administration has clashed with Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, who has stressed that the city’s policies restrict local law enforcement’s ability to collaborate with federal agents and emphasized the city wouldn’t be backing down from these practices. Last week, the Trump administration sued Wu over these “sanctuary” policies, accusing the city of obstructing federal enforcement of immigration laws.
