Law Student Mia O'Brien, 23, Jailed for 25 Years in Dubai Prison After Being Found with 50g of Cocaine

A promising British law student has been sentenced to 25 years in the notoriously brutal Dubai prison after being caught with 50 grams of cocaine — equivalent to around £2,700 — during a visit to the United Arab Emirates.

Mia O'Brien, 23, a student at the University of Liverpool, was reportedly detained earlier this year while staying in an apartment in Dubai with friends. Her family said the aspiring lawyer was handed the sentence without a fair trial, and is now enduring appalling prison conditions that include overcrowded cells, violence and a near-total lack of legal rights.

'She pleaded not guilty — they don't have a just trial over there', said her mother, Danielle McKenna, 46, in an interview with The Daily Mail. 'The trial was all in Arabic, and Mia was told of the sentence later by her lawyer.'

I don't think 'real' refers to existence of a trial, but rather to a fair and equitable trial Torchlight Sep 2025 #12

She at least thinks she's innocent.

Sounds like there were 3 people she was with, all 3 charged with this crime when no one knows which of them's coke it was.

Probably targeted for her high profile and scantily dressed social media posts.

But in Dubai, the plea is meaningless and she was sentenced without a real trial.

When I was a law student back in the 70s, being caught with any illegal substance meant you could never get admitted to the bar, so I never fooled around with drugs, not even weed (which my kids think I am lying about). Even my friends were careful to keep me out of bad situations by doing things like smoking their weed outside or in the basement at parties, etc.

So how in Hell could this young woman take a chance by bringing drugs like cocaine into Dubai?

what happened to the other two people with her?

Also: never travel with that kind of thing, if it wasn't hers, then she needs help from our consulate, but unless she's the orange man's "type", she probably won't get it.
