And NO, I AM NOT going to do the "IMAGINE IF BIDEN OR OBAMA DID THIS" thing.
TRUMP did it. People can BELIEVE what they WANT to BELIEVE, but TRUMP saying
Ive known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy, Trump booms from a speakerphone. Hes a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it Jeffrey enjoys his social life.
...maybe I'm jumping to conclusions here, but this sort of tells me that Trump knew EXACTLY how far on "the younger side" Jeffy "liked" them.
WHY ISN'T AMERICA screaming for Trump's REMOVAL FROM OFFICE?

It's not working to have a headline or two once in a while (and Fox viewers don't see any headlines of this type). It's not working to have long discussions on MSNBC panels devoted to his neediness and malignant narcissism and the expression of those pertaining to relationships with women. Books have been written on how awful of a human he is...doesn't leave a mark. He shouldn't have gotten close to a nomination in 2016, let alone 2020...so something is way off. With a couple of exceptions it's not working to take him to court (Cohen knows something about that). Millions of people protesting him and his policies are energizing, but hasn't changed much that i can see (maybe if they keep growing?). Running great candidates works, but it's an uphill battle and who is to say the next election and the one after that will be fair?
Something has to change because it's not happening on its own.
What else can be done? How can all the pieces of his degeneracy, immoral nature, and weirdness be put together in a compelling way that doesn't just focus on the latest outrage at the expense of previous outrages? Can we go all the way back to paint an accurate picture of his life wrt women?
Full page weekly ads about the latest outrages? A weekly cable series highlighting the history of this sorry, limited person? Each week could be a different aspect of his disorder. First week: women. Then financial cheating including stiffing anyone he can and cheating at golf. Then his 1,200 court cases in week 3. Week 4 is lying...or maybe that's week 4/5/6 since there's so much. Racism. Then ignorance. Bankruptcies and poor ideas. Covid.
Plenty of material, which gets forgotten as each outrage earns a bit of discussion as though nothing came before it.
Miles Archer
(23,733 posts)...and that is WHY PEOPLE DON'T CARE.
Can't craft a message that's effective until you truly understand the recipient. And the problem I have is that 100% of the people I know personally are sickened and outraged by Trump. I've never met an "I don't care" person. If I did, I'd endeavor to find out why they didn't, then try to reason with them on some level where this actually DID matter to them.

Men who aren't in a romantic relationship with each other don't usually sign their letters to their best friends that way. But there's definitely a "secret" here in plain sight, between the drawing itself and the fact that "enigmas never age" is a clear anagram for "gamines never age."
"But how would Trump know what a gamine is? He speaks at the level of a 4th grader."
True. But after hanging with Epstein and Maxwell for so fucking long, I'm sure he picked up on plenty of pedospeak.

THE PROBLEM:
1/3 of this country ( or more conservatively about 25% strongly and 10% generally) are FUCKING MAGAts!!
THAT is what is wrong with this country!
Trump is a manifestation of these MAGAts. He made himself their "vessel" and they grabbed it. He knew they were too stupid to do anything about it if he got power, and how easily he could keep thier support by being as ugly as they are.
And the media amplifys the MAGAt voices , so they seem universal and poison those not already MAGAts.

After you answer that question, I'd like to know what you would like to see. What would the appropriate amount of outrage/disgust/disapproval, etc., look like to you?
Everywhere I look, I am seeing the story covered. So far tonight I have watched ABC News, which covered it. Later I tuned into Rachel, who covered it. I am watching Lawrence right now and he is covering it and showing the drawing.
The drawing and the story is front and center on the NY Times digital page but is on p. 9 of the print edition.
The digital edition has 11.3 million subscribers and the print edition has 580,000.
The story is front and center of the online edition of the Washington Post, too. The drawing is on the front page, under the masthead.
Again, what do you want to see?

(3,202 posts)But the Big Balding Buffoon owns the seats of power in the Government -- including the SCOTUS -- and so American outrage has no way to vent its anger peacefully.
Moreover, any attempts to wrest control through violence would be suicidal. Trump's handlers are well prepared for it. They know whom they can count on to destroy the enemy in the streets. It would be the Battle of Vinegar Hill all over again, pikes against cannon.
So we don't condone the horrors that have been visited on the innocent by friends and colleagues of Trump -- and by the Fat Buffoon himself -- but are, quite literally, helpless against it.
The Courts will acquit; The Legislature will turn its head -- or actually cheer on the MAGA destruction. The States and Localities -- Cities! -- will have their power subsumed by the National Military.
The result is that, today, the choices for good citizens are to flee, to hide in silence, or to fight and be "disappeared".

There are a lot people in the country who do not, cannot or will not see it. If you try to force them to face the reality, you will quickly gain one or more labels:
- Woke
- Libtard
- TDS
- Deep State
- Traitor
and your credibility with them goes out the window.
It appears that we are stuck until they, themselves, come to the realization that they have been had.
The only good news is when they do, they will act as they will see that they have been betrayed.

(1,071 posts)Morale is low. I think COVID was the straw that broke the back for a lot of folks. The overall zeitgeist afterwards felt decidedly "Me, ME, MEEE!" and "YOLO" for a while. I think that's petering out into other things. I think there are alot more Nihilists at the moment than is readily apparent. Altruism beyond electronically sending money to the shelter, the party or the rescue is drying up. I hear a lot of "I'm tired of being angry.", and as with grieving, many people are moving on to other stages of grief. Also, when your focus is on keeping your job, apartment, car, the kids happy... there can often be little left over for the righteous indignation that leads to the follow up actions that actually get things done.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/white-house-jeffrey-epstein-birthday-book-donald-trump-rcna230024
A copy of the book submitted to Congress (which was not reviewed by MSNBC) included a typed message, inside the outline of a womans torso, that read, in part, A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday and may every day be another wonderful secret. At the bottom of the message is a signature that appears to be Donald Trumps.
The image looks like the one the Journal described in July.
......White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed that its very clear that Trump didnt draw the figure or sign the letter. Other White House officials pushed the same line, and true to form, several congressional Republicans soon followed, echoing the new party line.
At face value, the pushback was and is difficult to take seriously. The signature on the letter resembles other documents from that era that Trump signed.

— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2025-09-08T21:38:29.142Z
For that matter, its difficult to imagine how the document in question couldve been fabricated in the first place. As CNNs Aaron Blake summarized, The key fact here is that this comes from Epsteins estate. In other words, for this letter to have been fake, someone would have had to plant it in Epsteins possessions a long time ago, somehow........
Theres a quote thats often attributed to political theorist Hannah Arendt: This constant lying is not aimed at making the people believe a lie, but at ensuring that no one believes anything anymore. As it happens, Arendt didnt actually say this (at least not exactly), but the quote resonates because of its salience:
Trump obviously tries to get people to believe lies all the time, but nearly as often, the president and his allies try to get people to give up on the idea that facts exist. With too many Americans, these tactics are effective, which helps explain why theyve become so common.
