Every time I think Abbot is my least favorite governor DeSantis makes a bid for the prize.

1. My mother was a young nurse during the polio epidemic.

Before she joined the USAF as a military nurse during the Korean War.

She said the iron lung ward with children was really hard to deal with.
Almost worse than working later in a MASH receiving hospital full of
men wounded in Korea.

Another thing she remembered and talked about is how young healthy people
seemed to be the hardest hit by polio.

Once when she was a student nurse, she was sent to the hospital ER to help out during a bad bout
of polio hitting the community. A strong young man walked up to her looking
hale and hardy, but saying he didn't feel well.

He dropped dead at that instant right at her feet. She never forgot that.
