Next batch of Amazon Kuiper satellites prepped for launch

A Colorado rocket maker is gearing up for another launch of Amazon satellites that aim to compete with Starlink satellite internet.

United Launch Alliance plans to launch 27 Amazon Kuiper satellites on Sept. 25, the latest in the more than 3,000 total Amazon has planned to launch into 2029. It’s required to launch at least half of its satellites by July 30 next year.

By launching Amazon’s satellites, ULA is helping set up a competitor to Starlink, a SpaceX subsidiary. SpaceX is ULA’s biggest competitor in the domestic space launch industry. A few of the satellite batches will be launched by SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.

Over 100 Kuiper satellites have already been launched into low-Earth orbit, according to Amazon. ULA expects to launch about half of Amazon’s satellite constellation.

I think Hughesnet is the only other satellite internet offered. There might be others.
