the only intact object was the passport of the lead hijacker. I've never heard a good non-conspiracy-theory explanation for that.

It's the only "intact" object you've heard about. I expect there are other things found too, just not as remarkable or attention-getting.

I still don't see how it could have escaped unscathed from the fires that took down a skyscraper. But I'm not an architect or an engineer.

Also, if a piece of concrete fell on top of the passport it would have protected it from the fire, like if it ended up sandwiched between concrete floor and concrete ceiling. No real accounting for it, but it is not bizarre that some things survived, though that particular item is quite the coincidence.
