FL-SEN: Ex-Florida school board member launches Democratic challenge against Sen. Moody
Former Brevard County School Board member Jennifer Jenkins (D) launched her campaign for Senate in Florida on Wednesday, challenging incumbent Sen. Ashley Moody (R-Fla.) in the red state.
Jenkins made headlines in 2020 when she ousted conservative school board member Tina Descovich, an ally of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) who went on to co-found the parental choice group Moms for Liberty. Jenkins won the school board race by roughly 10 points in the right-leaning district. She has also founded a political committee called Educated We Stand that is opposed to conservative policies promoted by groups like Moms for Liberty.
Were going to run a different type of campaign, one that is fearless about fighting for working people and laser-focused on making Florida more affordable for everyone, Jenkins said in a statement announcing her Senate bid.
In her launch video, Jenkins hits Moody as being out of touch with her constituents on issues like food prices, housing, health care, and health care.
