I mean it's a huge deal, I think we all get that, well the reasonable people at least, will it be a blip, or will something more come of it?

(39,138 posts)Russia will probably be a bit more careful when murdering Ukrainians now.

(17,911 posts)such a drastic step. He's desperate to get this war wrapped up, but he is playing with fire now. Why is he trying to get NATO involved? Does he want to use nukes? He doesn't have the men to fight a wider war. They've been drafting teenagers and old men. It's a scary situation.

(35,518 posts)That could be.
I also wonder if he's feeling more aggressive
because of that meeting with India and China.

(17,911 posts)This is probably the start of something much, much wider. Putin's desperate, and a desperate Putin is extremely dangerous. If NATO retaliates what will Xi do? Oh hell!

(8,823 posts)NATO immediately scrambled jets, shut down the drones. I don't think Russia stands a chance if an all out war broke. They can barely manage the Ukrainians.

(1,678 posts)is going for here. He can't take over Ukraine, and he would risk a fight with all of NATO?

(7,066 posts)Reuters reported at least some drones tracks looked like they were heading toward strategic points inside Poland. The size and synchronization of it makes a handful of accidental cross-border navigational errors" less than plausible. My knee-jerk guess is Moscow is testing NATOs immediate state of readiness and rules-of-engagement, with another possibility being to force NATO to divert air-defence assets and/or create confusion/hesitation (but the risk/benefit seems so out of whack as to almost dismiss it immediately). Also maybe to simply increase the "normalization" of these incidents to create more cover in the futture.
My immediate concern to this not knowing "why - to what end?"

To break up NATO. And make the US a non member.

(5,708 posts)This brazen assault is a red flag for all of Europe. The question is was it coincidence that the top
members of our government were together dinning publicly. Think when was the last time that
the president, VP, SOS, and SOD were out for dinner without their spouses in a public restaurant.
Was there a connection? I do not know but it is something to ponder in such perilous times.
