No more Social Security checks in the mail...

Last edited Wed Sep 10, 2025, 03:20 PM - Edit history (5)

https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/03/modernizing-payments-to-and-from-americas-bank-

I suppose electronic deposit can be set up without creating a connection with the bank on the Internet by simply giving them the information routing number and checking account number, so probably it’s not going to be that big of a deal but you only give people till the end of the month, ridiculous.

My initial reaction was what about the millions of senior citizens who certainly don’t have digital banking, they don’t have a account with the bank that they can control and review on the Internet or an app on your phone.

But I suppose They can set it up without that.

It is still step one, maybe a small step in figuring out a way to take our Social Security, in order to create chaos at a institution where they fired thousands of people so that work can’t be done. Etc

But I’m so glad so many people seem to have no worries at all about the most corrupt group of people on earth taking their Social Security eventually and their Medicare.

Could lead to some votes for Dems.

Uses Internet banking the least in America, people over 65.

What demographic gets 98% of Social Security payments. People over 65.

Like clockwork. Yes, I have to have a checking account, but I don't know how I'd get by without one anyhow.

Social Security benefits are far more likely to get lost in the mail or stolen from the mail than electronically on their way to your checking account.

Lots of elderly have checking accounts but they don’t have a digital presence with that banking account they don’t have it set up electronically, now I suppose they don’t have to have that they can just give Social Security the bank routing number and checking account number now that I think about it, but to give them only 20 days to resolve it, bastards

As far as I know, every checking account is capable of receiving funds wired into it. Unless you have no checking at all, which would make it almost impossible to cash your social security check, why would getting a paper check be better than having it wired directly into your account?

It has nothing to do with Internet or the computers in the home situation. In all my years of dealing with tens of thousands of people, I never knew a legitimate person who did not have a checking account or was willing to open one if asked by their creditors. However, I knew plenty of crooks who were not on the grid at all, and some who didn’t even have Social Security numbers because in the old days you had to apply before you went to work for the first time. If you were running numbers at the corner drugstore for the mob, you didn’t need to apply

Something no Democratic president would ever do. 😡

Per another poster here, supposedly people were warned a couple of months ago, but that’s the people who paid attention to the email or whatever it was or letter, how many didn’t.

A lot of people just haven’t learned yet, anything this administration does will be fucked up and chaos this included.

now they are being expected to jump on a learning curve. For older folks that can sometimes be very intimidating.

They are used to phones, not doing things online. They are sometimes less mobile, so being told that online communication or "in person" are the only options, can be difficult to manage.

And now they are being told that their usual way of receiving their check will not exist. It will certainly be "scary" to some of our most senior citizens. Not everyone has someone who can help them navigate these "new" methods.

Our aging population deserves better treatment, IMHO.

experience. He found out about 2 or 3 months ago about this change. He is completely computer illiterate. At some point, maybe a few weeks ago, he received a letter with a dedicated 800 number to set up his direct deposit. He does have a bank account. They set it up for him and he said it was easy. But I don't know if all the people who need such help are getting it.

About whether or not they knew before today, they being people who were still getting paper checks.

I can assure everyone if this has been done by this administration which clearly it is it will not be easy and simple.

If it was in his case that’s good, but I bet it won’t be in every case

The SSA started notifying people last year. Via USPS. I got that notification more than once. It included information on how to set up payments to your bank account. That, despite the fact that I've been getting direct deposits for almost 30 years.

Clearly, you do not have all of the information. So, you have had to make corrections and delete replies in this thread. Jumping to conclusions often results in such issues.

Correct – savings accounts as well; all financial institutions are capable of electronic/digital deposits, transfers, and withdrawals.

My mother is 94 next month and has no problem with direct deposit of her SS.
