(58,374 posts)The whole point of stochastic terrorism is to get someone to do the murdering for you so you don't have to get your hands dirty (i.e. face liability for the murder).
All you have to do is tell your cult followers that liberals are responsible for murder and you leave it up to the cultists to do your dirty work, like Trump does here:

(5,155 posts)It's not a question of what he deserves or not. But also how you choose to live your life and the things that you choose to put out into the universe can come back on you. I think there's a lot of Republicans running around now thinking that there will never be any consequences for the things they say and do and, without sanctioning shooting political rivals, I'm comfortable with saying that this was a not unforeseeable consequence of having a high public profile and whipping up maniacs into a frenzy.

(22,835 posts)200 yards is not terribly difficult for an experienced person, so not an amateur probably.
For a skilled person the neck is a very good target, you are nearly guaranteed to cause a critical, if not fatal injury. Having seen the more graphic video, he had just sat back and was holding his body straight. The perfect time/posture for someone trying to kill him.

(4,162 posts)My arsenal includes:
-- .243 cal Remington 700 with a no-name scope, zeroed at 150 yards. I use it to shoot graoundhogs, mainly; most of them between 75 and 250 yards. In 15 years I have killed 6-8 a year and have never missed.
-- .308 Weatherby Mark V Deluxe with a Leupold Mark5 scope. Zeroed at 200 yards. At 300 yards the round drops 6-7 inches, at 400 yards between 19-21 inches. With about 20 minutes of coaching and firing, my 14-yr-old grandson was putting three-round groups into the bullseye at 300 yards.
-- My favorite is a Daisy Red Ryder Deluxe BB rifle. Never shot my eye out.

(20,404 posts)With a cheap $75 laser rangefinder to get the drop right, I could probably make a headshot with my CZ 457 .22LR bolt action rifle. I know I can hit Coke cans in the field behind my house out to 150 yd if the wind isn't bad.
A center-fire rifle and a 14-16x scope with a good rest is nothing at 200 yd.

(5,334 posts)clearly has a lot of experience. There are a lot of people in the country who could have pulled that off. The bigger question is whether or not the shooter acted on his own initiative. At some point the issue will be raised whether this was a false flag: kill one of your own to incite others on your side to violence.

(16,487 posts)Kirk was at the red spot, shooter was on a roof 200 yards away from the Losee Center.

Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years? an audience members asked. Kirk responded: Too many.
The questioner followed up: Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years?
Counting or not counting gang violence? Kirk asked.
Then a single shot rang out.
How ironic.

(6,262 posts)My husband works at the gun department of a sporting goods store and is a hunter. Although he is well into his senior years, he practices at 200 yards at the local shooting range and has no trouble hitting the target center, and he is definitely an amateur. This person may or may not be a professional, but he/she was definitely an experienced shooter.
