The attack on Charlie Kirk is disgusting, vile, and reprehensible. In the United States of America, we must reject political violence in EVERY form," Newsom said on X.
"America was founded on the freedom to disagree. Political violence has no place in our democracy. The shooting of Charlie Kirk is reprehensible and sickening. I am praying for him and his family during this time."
"The shooting of Charlie Kirk at a university is chilling & horrific. Political violence has no place in America. We all must reflect on how we can tone down the anger & hate that has poisoned our politics and be better citizens in a divided and aching nation."
Rep. Eric Swalwell
"Political violence is not who we are as Americans. We can NEVER accept this. I hope Mr. Kirk is OK and pray for his family."

(69,643 posts)It makes sense for prominent Democrats to speak out against this and make the point that political violence is bad.
No harm done if it turns out to be non-political.

There's a lot of mean violent people out there on the right.

(49,020 posts)Or what if he stole someones stash of cocaine? Mayhap he owed someone a huge sum on a gambling debt, like a million bucks and Trump wouldn't give him the money to cover it. Or perhaps it was a drug deal gone bad or he pissed off the Mafia?

(4,016 posts)I agree with the sentiment about political violence having no place in our democracy, and this was a vile act.
It will become interesting if it turns out this person's 'beef' with Kirk is that he lost a child in a school shooting. In fact, that would probably be a best case scenario in terms of the political fallout (that, and he being a white, US citizen).

(134 posts)This isnt a difference of opinions kirk and his fans want to take rights away from people and are fine with violence against people on the left.

(4,100 posts)unless he violated edge-cases of the First Amendment, he was exercising his right as an American to speak his mind.
Anyone applauding that is disgusting and ignorant.

(134 posts)That being said shit happens and I ain't gonna cry for feel bad for him or his fans or his family if im honest he was a man willing to sacrifice other peoples families and children hard for me to feel one ounce of regret or sadness. If that makes me disgusting and ignorant then ill wear that with pride. Trust me these people wouldnt feel bad If it was one of us.
