MI-GOV: Hackel casts doubt on whether he'll run for Michigan governor

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel said he will not run for governor next year, even if he still sort of sounds like a potential candidate.

The county executive also said he believes there won’t be a state government shutdown at month's end and predicted there will be a sustainable road funding plan to come out of the Michigan Legislature this year.

Hackel, appearing on the WXYZ-TV’s “Spotlight on the News" on Sunday, said the country’s hyper-partisan environment among far-left or far-right government leaders has led to political gridlock that he doesn’t see as productive.

The lifetime Democrat who counts numerous Republicans as allies said he prefers to work with officials who focus more on getting things accomplished than being reelected to office.
