NASA presser: Possible biosignature of ancient life on Mars.

NASA held a press conference this morning to announce the publication of a peer reviewed paper in the journal Nature stating evidence of ancient microbial life on Mars has been found. The NASA scientists emphasize that this is evidence — not proof — of past life, but given how careful NASA is not to make undue claims of this nature, the announcement seems significant. The peer review panel has ruled out known non-biological origins. NASA expects to retrieve samples in the 2030s and return them to Earth for detailed analysis and possible confirmation.
