Yeah, it's pretty easy to be blase about the inevitable effects of a "heavily armed society"

and downplay the suffering it causes when you yourself are rich, and feel like you're well-protected from such things. IOW, it's easy to be nonchalant about the cost to OTHER peoples lives when it comes to getting your way.

If his personal security detail had told him that there were even semi-credible reports of someone being out to harm him at that event, he sure as shit would've cancelled, given he had the luxury of doing so. Unlike our kids who basically go to school under that threat every day.

His family gets my sympathy. He, otoh, tempted fate, and fate had the last word. That's just how things go sometimes.
