(517 posts)Could be very dangerous. We saw yesterday Trump hold up the picture of the pretty little white girl and the gnarly looking black man. It's clear what they're doing, and they want to encourage more intense division, and possibly violence.

(20,056 posts)Investigators found ammunition engraved with expressions of transgender and antifascist ideology inside the rifle that authorities believe was used in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, according to an internal law enforcement bulletin and a person familiar with the investigation.
The older-model .30 caliber hunting rifle was discovered in the woods near the scene of Wednesdays shooting at Utah Valley University, wrapped in a towel with a spent cartridge still in the chamber, the sources said. There were also three unspent rounds in the magazine, all with wording on them.
Kirk, 31, was onstage going back and forth with a student about mass shootings involving transgender people when he was targeted, according to videos of the attack. The student has not been publicly identified.
I find it interesting they're saying "the student" as if that's a known.

(23,802 posts)Only question to me is whether he is MAGA that wants to make trans persons look bad, so left these crumbs for the FBI, or if the entire weapon was just planted and then found by FBI.

(2,597 posts)Can live ammo be safely marked with an electric engraving tool? Or using some kind of hand tool? Or would this have to be done to the empty casings prior to reloading?
entirely possible even on a loaded cartridge.

(35,135 posts)I do not believe that for one second.
We have to think about who had a motive in this situation.
Is the Epstein situation removed from the headlines now? I haven't turned on the news today. I assume it's either 9/11 tributes or CK coverage.
From my understanding, CK mentioned that he was being seriously threatened by other republicans for bringing a guy named Dave Smith onto his podcast (Smith was advocating for an end to the Israel/Gaza conflict).
There's also the matter of his wavering back and forth about the Epstein files. Did CK privately confront trump and ask for access to the files in order to be able to get back on the trump train with a clear conscience? Did a deadline pass without access to the files? By offing CK, trump could kill 5 birds with one stone - 1) escape CK's deadline about the epstein files, 2) change the subject with the media, 3) create a martyr, 4) a pretext to start rounding up trans, 5) a pretext to start rounding up people on the left (or block the left's access to guns).

Bluetus
(3,077 posts)two things, actually:
1) Isn't that pretty hard to do? I mean you can't write a whole manifesto.
2) This implies the shooter WANTS to be caught and fully expects that. If so, why wouldn't they put out a REAL manifesto to explain their actions? If I were going to assassinate somebody, knowing I would likely be killed or spend the rest of my life in prison, I would want to take every opportunity to explain myself in my own words without the media filtering and twisting it.
Hellbound Hellhound
(527 posts)1: Not hard at all.
2: Also not at all; They're sending a message, not a manifesto. I've thought about this commonly, about how if one wished to send a message, they'd leave signs, probably a gun, probably an ammo, but no "Manifesto". A "Manifesto" implies getting caught. This one wanted to kill and survive; Their message is writ on evidence left at the scene. To be reported on, but not linking them TO it. Manifestos are ego. This was a declaration.

(106,592 posts)to have been misread or misinterpreted".
According to a preliminary internal report circulated inside the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, federal and local officials recovered ammunition with the rifle that appeared to be engraved with statements expressing transgender and anti-fascist ideology.
But the New York Times reports that a senior law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the investigation cautioned that report had not been verified by A.T.F. analysts, did not match other summaries of the evidence, and might turn out to have been misread or misinterpreted. In fast-moving investigations, such status reports are not made public because they often contain a mixture of accurate and inaccurate information.

(20,056 posts)The Guardian published a quote by Mace siting the reporting by the WSJ on the alleged engravings. I think? Either way it's being walked back. Lots of walking back going on in this investigation so far.

(106,592 posts)It was the NYT that had the "ATF analysts have not checked this, there could be a mistake" line.
joshcryer
(62,536 posts)They need to interview the suspect and a detail like that would be brought up in the interview and prosecution process as they go through the persons life with a fine tooth comb.
In other words I don't think the ATF is denying it they are just not confirming it.
This detail would have rapidly been shared around amongst the investigators internally and WSJ thought it was valid enough to publish.
I am not saying it is accurate but we just have to wait and see.
