Vance to visit Charlie Kirk's family, canceling 9/11 memorial trip

Vice President JD Vance, a close friend of Charlie Kirk, will travel to Utah on Thursday to visit with the family of the 31-year-old conservative activist killed a day earlier.

Vance, who was scheduled to travel to New York to attend the annual 9/11 memorial ceremony, will now go to Salt Lake City to pay respects to Kirk’s family, according to a person with knowledge of the vice president’s plans who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. Vance will be accompanied by second lady Usha Vance.

The vice president, 41, struck up a friendship with Kirk after the conservative commentator — whose audience eventually grew to millions through his daily shows and social media content — sent Vance a direct message in 2017 following his segment on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show.

“Charlie Kirk was a true friend. The kind of guy you could say something to and know it would always stay with him,” Vance wrote on X late Wednesday night, in a lengthy post detailing their friendship and what Kirk meant to him.

A shooting, in a country that's renowned for random shootings, is more important than 9/11. Got it. Crunchy Frog Sep 2025 #11

I remember what Trump said about the towers, "I prefer towers that didn't fall."

Actually he said that his tower was the tallest now.

Kirk's wife will toe the party line and not come to an epiphany that Kirk only reaped what he sowed.

It's all bullshit. In a few days only a handful of extremists on the right will remember or care about Charlie Kirk. He'll be forgotten faster than Limbaugh. Charlie's next stop, the dustbin of history.

They want genuine political violence to come out of this, and they're going to work for it.
