who had a falling out with him. I wonder if this is a possible explanation for what happened. This would mean that the assassin was not a leftest but a righty who had a grievance against Kirk.

If true, what an awful way to deal with a falling out!
But if he's actually more RW than Kirk, then maybe Trump will give the shooter the Medal of Freedom and encourage him to be an influencer. I wouldn't put it past him. sarcasm: (Or maybe it isn't)

(2,679 posts)Any smart person committing a crime like this would dress like a 2A righty knowing they would blend in.

(5,597 posts)If you want to blend in, wear flip flops and a hoodie and shorts or sweatpants. You will look like everyone else. This shirt actually looks a bit strange on a college campus.
All to say, what he dressed in may or may not have any relation to his beliefs or the crime.

(34,852 posts)Heck, we see people dressed like that when they go to vote! We automatically know their political affiliation .LOL
But then, the voters aren't planning to kill people, nor are they armed with rifles.

(4,004 posts)Whether they ARE the perp or not is another story, but this person will be ID'd. If he's not involved, his life was probably just ruined.
I do agree with your point though, it would be 'smart' to dress like this at a Kirk rally at a college campus in a Utah district that votes heavily R in every election.

(69,639 posts)I've never understood that point of view.
I don't think of this as a football game with two sides. There are way, way more than two sides here.
I have no idea who killed Charlie Kirk. By definition, a person who commits assassination is operating outside the law. I'm not on "their side" because I believe in the Constitution and the law.
It isn't going to matter to me whether the killer turns out to be a right winger or a left winger, whatever that means anyway. I'm not going to agree with what they did. I'm also not going to mourn Charlie Kirk, who was a truly evil person who urged others to kill and harm many other people.

(4,004 posts)version of events. The will NOT genuflect if it turns out they are wrong about that. It's too late. Most of them won't even HEAR that the suspect was ID'd as a non-leftist because this fact will not be included in their carefully curated news bubbles.
As another poster mentioned last night, if it's a rightie, they will be "a lefty impostor" or "compromised/brainwashed by the left", or their identity will be "fake news planted by the Deep State!!!1!"
From IQ47 on down, the radical right are constitutionally incapable of admitting they are/were wrong about anything, especially if that means that liberals were correct and/or not to blame for something bad that happened. NOR do actual "facts" matter to them if those facts contradict their viewpoint or storyline.

With inexpensive video cameras that can record 4k images, those images look like they are from a surveillance system that is 20 years old.
I also think the photos may be intentionally "soft" to maybe disguise an actor. There is an arm in the one shot of either an accomplice or someone that may be able to recognize the person. My wife also thinks it may be a woman.

(53,393 posts)Kirk was killed on a public university campus. Utah Valley University is too broke to field a football team - seriously, they dont have one - so the odds of them putting the latest surveillance cameras in what appears to be an area not open to the public are low.

(4,004 posts)They have fragile housings, flimsy mounting systems, etc. Not well-suited for public spaces where they could be vandalized or stolen. Also, this may be a zoom-in from a much larger picture. Just sayin
